I think CK531a is faster but with a little less braking effect for pushblocking. CK531a chops a little better feeling-wise. But they both perform the same for chopping in OX.

I've never played the palio with sponge, but I intend to.

I've played a bit with and against a Dtecs OX + VKMO combo (A fellow clubmate's), and I concur that Dtecs has, the best "braking" effect, of all legal LPs I've played with... I've also noticed that with the above combo, I can easily play strokes (such as swipe, and also hitting) that I find hard to play with other combos (such as the one in my profile)...

I am now seriously considering switching to the Dtecs, on my Defplay... I wonder how this combo would be ? Anyone ?

I've tried both... the Ck531a seems to just give good reversal but nothing else. With Dtecs you a lot more variation and random effects, and also more backspinwhen chopping loops. Dtecs feels softer and more lively, and I agree with others that it gives the best braking effect.

I've played with both extensively, probably a couple of years each. IMO they differ quite a bit.

A few thoughts (in OX):
CK is a lot more sensitive to spin, sure the reversal is there but you need a hard blade for that, on soft blades it's not a good choice for blocking IMO, unless you're chop blocking. CK is fine for chop blocking but D.Tecs runs circles around CK when it comes to passive strokes.
CK can create more spin on it's own.
CK has a much harder and direct feel whilst D.Tecs catapults much more.
I think CK is a better rubber for chopping if you have good technique and can brush the ball properly. D.Tecs is much better for blocking.
CK is a lot better for attacking compared to D.Tecs (in ox).

I've tried both with sponge and both of them is fine for chopping, CK if you want to create more spin on your own, both when chopping and pushing, and D.Tecs if you want have an easier time dealing with spin at the table.

All in all: In my book D.Tecs in ox is geared towards a very specific type of play, it does what it does well extremely well but outside of that it's nothing spectacular. If you want to block and push aggressively at the table and attack with FH (or not) then D.Tecs is superior. I know that D.Tecs is widely known to be hard to control, but IMO it takes a better player to use CK effectively.
