Thank BH! The ball did not seem to give you too much trouble.

Any idea on durability yet? Did you break any during the session?

It's a good ball. Very playable but still not in the same class with the Nittaku one that Larry Hodges has it.

It's similar with Joola. Still has some weird bounces and durability is sub-par. The one I hit with Hodges has maybe 1 weird bounce in 10 minutes. Joola and DHS has one in 3 minutes.

Right now, I don't buy in that plastic ball will hurt chopper. I moved to a new city and I don't have any big hitter/looper to test with so far.

PREVENTING IRREGULAR BOUNCE OF THE PLASTIC BALLS..

Weird (=irregular) bounce is surely begot from the ball having an uneven thickness all over the shell. Just have done a spinning test to sort the wobbling balls away.

NB//
Nittaku used to have a thermal pressure processing on the ball's either hemisphere to prevent the uneveness. This is why Nittaku balls will offer almost perfect regularity in bounce.
On the other hand, the extra processing leads to extra costs.

Where did you get your DHS ball? I've been looking around at US TT dealers and can't find anybody who is carrying the DHS 40+ yet. Thanks.

Tabletennis11 has them. I got a small box from TTNPP but had to wait awhile. I couldn't tell the difference between that one and Joola or Nittaku SHA. I very much prefer XSF personally.

I just got some in as well. Ours were produced in Jun 2014, which is quite recent. I'll be trying them this weekend.

Simple solution, my theory, add a little resin for stability without adding extra cost.

My Review of the DHS 40+ plastic balls.

In a nutshell, they are slower (slower than the Nittaku 40+ balls as well) but spin comparable to celluloid. they seem good quality and durable, and about 30% more expensive than the DHS celluloid balls. They are great for push-blocker style players and choppers.

From the review:

"Several players immediate commented that the ball felt heavier. Although I don’t have the equipment to measure the weight of these balls, I’ve talked to other people that have tested plastic balls and who did weigh them, and they found that it was not weight that was significantly different, but the hardness of the ball – harder balls tend to feel heavier."

I once bought some off-brand Gambler 3-star balls for practice and they feel slightly heavier. I asked for other opinions with similar results, and some have theorized it's the powder on them when new. Yet they were actually very slightly lighter on a digital scale. The difference did seem to lessen as the powder wore off, yet this wasn't reflected in any weight change, so perhaps it's change in grip level??

I also suspected it might be hardness, but Nittaku's are supposed hard yet don't feel heavy in the same way. Nittaku's also feel pretty lively and the Gamblers feel a bit slower (so....opposite of hard?), but I was never able to measure any difference with approximate tests (likely differences were <5%).

This is why I've given up on describing nuanced differences based on how nything feels. It's as likely to be misleading as not.
