Giant Dragon Talon is now available at www.ttdd.de.

The description says it has extremely wide-spaced pips that are also wide, maximum length and very soft. It's supposed to be fast, but takes a lot of speed out of the game in passive blocking while able to highly accelerate in the active game. The disruptive effect is extremely high, the control is not easy. Can be used for all stroke types. Playing characteristics are noticeably different from the banned frictionless long pimples, especially the high grip of the serrated tops.

This stuff is supposed to be a D.Tecs clone. Guess I have to try it now.

There's a Talon Special as well... not sure what the difference is.

Early review on noppen-test by NetzKanteWeg is that Dragon Talon blocks short well and elicited a lot of cursing from the opponents so it must have some good qualities.

Here's what he posted:

After the first test, he wasn't sure about the rubber. He said that the rubber has a medium trajectory..

Here are his remarks form the 2nd training with the rubber:

He tried the rubber for a match for points (I assume rating points as germany now has a rating system)

Here's a translation (of the relevant information) of what he said:

Quote:
Similar to my first training with the rubber, the rubber does not appear to be something extraordinary.

BUT: The funny thing at yesterdays training using the Talon, 2 or 3 people asked me if I got a new long pips rubber. I personally didn't find the rubber to produce a uncomfortable trajectory.

My opponents missed balls and shouted explitives at my pips..
What I noticed is that I can't recall any long pips rubber with which I was able to play short balls that well. I was able to produce many balls which bounced at the opponents side of the table 2 or more times.. Probably it's the combination of more control (easier placement) and a little bit less disturbing effect. Especially when blocking, I had the impression that I have to get used to the rubber better to be able to use it better.
With the correct racket angle, blocks against topspin worked very well. Opponents were able to loop again but occasionally, they would miss their attacks due to the balls trajectory which caused my opponents to shout explitives and caused me to smile..

Returning serves is, with sufficient concentration, without a problem, but I would be lying if I'd say that the rubber is not sensitive to spin.

I only tried to use the rubber for long defense for a short time as I had 2 intensive training days and my batteries were running empty

I do think that the rubber has potential. I would've needed a new D.tecs but so far, I decided that for now, I will leave the Talon on my blade and continue to play with it..

First cautious conclusion: The rubber has potential compared with other pips and their prices. I think that the rubber is worth the close to 20 Euro price tag (and I don't care that it's a chinese rubber)

I will be trying some offensive options with the rubber in future training sessions and will report back!

I'm going to watch this with interest. I'm pretty gutted about all the dtecs news so if there is something out there which is about as good then I may be tempted to switch. Looking forward to reading more so please do keep us up to date.

Haggisv - would you be able to let me know when you get this in as I'd definitely like to get a sheet to test on my Freundlieb blade. Cheers mate.
