Very interesting information posted by leatherback regarding the ITTF's official friction test.

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=15460

Apparently it's a two step process, first without pressure, then with pressure applied manually until the pips bend. This would seem inconsistent as some pips bend easier than others.

Would love to see a photo of this machine and other information such as manufacturer and price. It doesn't sound like the original Innowep machine we were told about.

If they actually do a test with the force strong enough to bend the pips completely, I doubt that ANY rubber would fail that test.. Even if you'd test Super Block and you press a ball against it to bend the pips (and those are very hard), I'm sure that Super Block would pass the test. As long as ITTF does not release the official pressure on the ball, any such test is subjective and not objective.

Bending pips on hard rubbers will weaken them and make the pips more prone to breakage if it doesn't break them immediately. :@

That too without a doubt.. However, you would have to apply so much pressure to bend those pips that the rubber couldn't possibly fail the friction test.
I really don't know why the ITTF is not releasing that information.. Maybe because they DON'T have a specific amount of pressure? That also might explain the inconsistent friction test results. I know for a fact that the SAME ITTF authorized rubber failed one test when submitted from one brand and passed it when submitted from another brand.. The rubbers were identical except for the brand (some manufactorers produce the same rubber under different brand names). So, there is no reason why the same rubber from one brand would pass and fail when submitted from another brand.. Looks like inconsistent testing parameters..

:( I find it sad that one pip player accuses another pip player of playing with treated equipment. Apparently it isn't enough that some inverted players accuse pip players already... Now we even start to accuse each other. Again we give a good image of our material and the players who use them. :(

Just airing my humble opinion,

Lorre

SLIPPERY and DIRTY PIMPLED RUBBER ---> NO MORE

Dear Colleague Lorre,

We have now got good news. That chronical vexed issue of Frictionless Pimples (and all the troubles /unpleasantness implicated) got now happily resolved to everyone's satisfaction, thanks to Italian individual Mr. Covini, industrial engineer.
Be happy.

Dear igorponger,

I'm not your colleague, let alone happy with your proposed solution.

Sincerely,

Lorre

Typical frictionless long pips player. I would love to test your rubbers, colleague Lorre. :D

Yeah, it's a real advantage as a defender to play with frictionless LPs. ;) You can test them anytime. I'm not paying for your gas from Russia, though. :D
