QF - 2007 Levallois Grand Prix
Kalinikos KREANGA vs Se-Hyuk JOO

(Taken from mytabletennnis.net > fixpoint)

Besides this video being amazing, A few things struck out at me.

Joo's foot work is so @*#$%& good!

His backhand Chop ball is a bit slower than in the past

The sound of the ball hitting his backhand is different

He now uses a slight chop block motion on occasional opening plays

He outright attacked with his backhand a few times. (not putaway shots either)

this all leads me to believe he is not using his old backhand rubber but something new. (probably xiom)

more interesting is I think he is using less sponge than before. (going from 1.3 down to <1.0 )

his forehand loop from the deep back court is amazing as well, although not entirely succesful.

If I remember, Kreanga tore him a new @#$@#$ in this match. Joo was very passive and didn't attack much. Seemed like he was under pressure from the beginning. Kreanga was basically teaing off from both wings.

Your right about his backhand, it has seemed like its slowed down considerably and the noise is slightly different. Maybe he's the second Korean now to be sponsored by Xiom ;) ?

He normally chops very aggressively on the backhand and rarely floats the ball, this match was the other way around.

I think he still plays Butterfly Fiant II T did use SP P1 but I have asked my Korean coach who sell Xiom in NZ she will know if he has changed. As I play Guillotine S it did not look like it to me, Guillotine S softs soft does not do the clack how he played on that video it looks like P1.

Did you notice Joo gets a lot of points with a no spin ball after a few heavy backspin balls. THis is the tyackic that my Korean coach is schooling me up on. But the no spin has to look like chop or you screwed.
THis is the first Video of Joo that I have seen him return serve with the fast jab, it goes back as heavy chop.

I think the reason his games is changing is that the top players are now getting use to chopper, as there are a few good one around, so Choppers might try new stuff or change their game to the keep the looper under pressure. The top Korean coach in my town played in the olympic team when they won the singles I think in 1988, with Yoo Nam-Kyu, he says with the modern looping game and super glued up rubbers the best a chopper can do is last 8 at any big tournament.

I just got email from Xoim agent she say Joo is not using Xiom, he might have there shirts but not LP, she says that Guillotine is the wrong style Lp for Joo to use. She should know I hope.

Very unkind I am very happy with Guillotine, my coach still uses faint II she says too hard to charge but like my LP. She says that being able to side cut a serve tp retun it low and swinging away from the servers is a great shot and faint II can not do this. You need grip on the top of the pips to do this.

PS I hope to send off my gift to you Monday.
PPS We rent out our statium for this week so no TT this week, I have another tornamnet next weekend on the Sturday 2.5 hours out of Christchutch in Timaru, and next dat Club champs. My wife will be very unhappy as the wholeweekend I will be at TT, no conjugal rights this weekend.
