D'après les premiers tests, le revêtement est très bon pour le chop. Il est moins bon en bloc car un peu rapide (d'après les testeurs de chez Japsko) mais bon ça reste à confirmer.

after first tests, for chopping it's very good. Less good for blocking due to speed of rubber ( according to Japsko test results)
but this needs to be confirmed.

..and they talk about some other things, one asking '' is it same rubber with Joola Octopus?''..''no''..

The french quote is mine!! lol I posted on the french forum
tennis-de-table.com a while ago the information I had gotten from Japsko.
So far, there's no more news on this rubber, especially a release date. I'll contact Japsko and ask them about the rubber.

Cheers,
Ma'man

I found this page, if anyone could translate it (it is in french I think):
http://www.tennis-de-table.com/forums/s ... 595-1.html

Here is full translation... Pin=Pip. This is a forum, so that's why it is like this. The last post says the texture is like DHS Cloud and Fog 3.

The pin along Haifu should be available in not too long ago, perhaps in Japsko if the price is not too high.

According to preliminary tests, the coating is very good for the chop. It is not as good as a whole for a little faster (according to the testers in Japsko) but hey it's still to be confirmed.

I tried to recover the test model, but Lars said he had mounted on a paddle and he could not send it to me. I try to see the side of ttnpp.com

If I have more info, I fail to let you know.

There is no info at this time. I remember the distributor for the United States had seen the plates on the catalog Haifu but had not read more than that to tell me.

Curl thank you because I created a topic not long ago but no one had info. It happens that's fine, the test remains to be seen!

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to order the last piece Japsko had in stock. I should receive it pretty soon and will share my impressions with you (which should be next week).

Lars told me that Haïfu had not decided on a release date yet. I hope it won't be like Hallmark's Friction Special 2 which has been on the LARC for the past 3 years and never hit the market. (could be a problem in case I need a replacement rubber).

In any case, I can't wait to try this baby and will let you know if it's been worth the wait.

Cheers,
Ma'man

Hi there folks,

I received the rubber today and glued it to my blade today but unfortunately will not be able to play with it before a fortnight...

I am really eager to try it and the wait is going to be long.....

I'll keep you posted as soon as I can.

Cheers,
Ma'man

Yep, from the look of the pips this rubber is definitely Mide In China.

I tried the Octopus last evening and here’s some feedback on this rubber :

Nice feeling when hitting the ball with the BH. The combo Toccata Def / Haïfu Octopus gives a very nice feeling. I really liked the fact that I could sense the ball on the racket….

Speed : the rubber is really really slow. The slowest is the Xiying, Haïfu Octopus comes next.

Throw angle : amongst the lowest but here, the blade certainly helps in having a low ball path.

Reaction to incoming spin : the rubber is quite insensitive to incoming spin. Returning serves is easy, ball placement is also easy. I liked the possibility to return short or long without problems.
Control : no big deal here, control is real good whether you play away or at the table.

Blocking : I didn’t try blocking as I am chopper but I think the rubber will not suit a blocker. Even if it is slow and insensitive to incoming spin, there is no real disturbing effect (apart from the low throw angle that can cause the opponent some trouble). Maybe on a faster and hard blade this would change but I ain’t sure about it.

Attacking on backspin ball: Wow, holy cow, WTF!!! the rubber f****** shines here. Since the ban on FLP and the switch to Joola Octopus (which is the best LP for my chopping game on the market today), I didn’t have the sensation I could attack any backspin ball and be sure to score almost every time anymore. The rubber almost behaves like a FLP and to me, no other LP performs like that.

Chopping away : The rubber also shines when it comes to chopping. Once again the ball can be kept low, the spin reversal is huge (same reversal as if playing with Octopus or Grass Dtecs), control is good.
Spin variation can be created quite easily depending on the racket angle, and how you play the ball. Thanks to the low speed, I really felt confident and could chop efficiently without effort.
The second chop was loaded with enough spin to force the opponents to push the ball rather than playing a topspin. I will continue investigating this part of my style tonite (this time with more skilled players) but this rubber definitely is a chopper’s dream.

All in all this first session with this “new” Octopus was quite enjoyable. I really liked how the rubber behaves globally and was really impressed with its potential for chops and attacks on backspin balls.

I will report more here in the coming days and should use it this Saturday for my first official championship game this year.

Cheers,
Ma’man

Thanks Ma'm. Have you any idea what the sponged version will be like? Anything that is comparable to DTecS but slower wll be interesting for many members I think (not me however...)

Thanks for the great review, Ma'Man! I do have two questions on a couple of your comments...

Quote:

What kind of an "attack stroke" to you use against backspin with this rubber? Is it a punch shot, an inverted-style drive, or the Dr. Neubauer "mudflap" stroke (paddle vertical through the stroke)?

Are you saying that this rubber gives good spin reversal (or "spin continuation", as some call it)? I am always looking for a LP that will allow me to flat-punch backspun balls, turning them into low topspin shots. For that, I need a LP with good reversal properties. Do you think this rubber would be good for that kind of shot?

Jim, I'm not sure if you realise that Taytay has revived a very old thread here. I'm not sure you will get a reply from Marathonman as I haven't seen him post on the forum in recent times.
