I'm pretty sure china-friend on ebay is the same as eacheng.net.

Mine hasn't arrived yet

In the meantime, I hurt my leg, so need to learn to play up at the table. I'm trying to learn to block.

Necessity is the Mother of invention, they say.

I received 2 sheets today, opened 1 package and the sheet looks completely different than the one I ordered months ago. Much thinner base sheet, pips look different and even the label area seems different to me but I will have to compare to my other sheet.

No idea how this sheet will perform, testing tomorrow night.

Update: took a photo, rubber mix is entirely different. Old one is similar to meteor 845 and not see through, new one not bright red and see through.

Try it. If it's like the one I got from Eacheng on Nov 30, 2013 it's most excellent.

I just put my Haifu Octopus OX red on a BBC Carboflex DURO 9.0mm -- 1.0mm thicker (and probably 30-40% faster) than my regular DURO -- and the Octopus came alive as an LP attacker's dream. I campaigned 802 2.0mm on the other side and won all my matches at the club last night against my usual practice opponents.. ones that can and have taken matches off me on a regular basis.

I`ve had similar variation with ck531a,one was really thin base sheet and orangy with loads of reversal when just blocking and nice flex when chopping but I tore it taking it off the blade so ordered another which is redder with a thicker base and plays nowhere near as good

Had the same issues 388d. 2 completely different shades of red and a little different texture.

So how much...in terms of price/rubber....is quality control worth?

Hmmmm, the only trouble I had with 388D was that my attack shots no longer worked. Pushing and chopping worked fine, but attack reliability went so low that I didn't dare attack, and so I was losing more points and games and matches, and that's when I took it off.

I do hope the Octopus is capable of attacking well. That was the attribute that attracted me to buy a sheet.

Fwiw, I think using a glue sheet plays an important role in making an OX LP perform consistently during hard attacking shots. A glue sheet like Donic's holds the OX LP 100% firmly in place with zero base sheet squirm; something I think no glue can equal.

I remember how much better I was able to control my chops when I started removing the glue sheets, but have to agree that its critically important that the rubber be really fastened down well. When I put it on, I will make sure at least that its on there really good.

I contacted the AliExpress seller( one of the eacheng shops) about the haifu octopus and got a quick answer:

-----------------------------------------------
haifu company are changing this rubber according to players' suggestion.
dark red is the second lot rubbers that are manufactured, it is too popular with players,
now the second lot rubbers in my stock have been sold out, haifu company have no the second lot rubbers,

now haifu company are not sure when they will manufacture the third lot rubbers.
if you think the rubber has problem please send it back to me quickly , thanks
------------------------------------------------

I will keep the new sheets as it seems all haifu stock is now sold out. Not tested the new version yet, I may be able to test it tonight or else on Friday.

The one I ordered is black. I wonder which version I'll get, and whether it will be playable, and if it is, whether I'll ever be able to get replacements for it. Even if its good, there is no point taking months to learn it if I won't be able to get future replacements.

It should have been here by now, but isn't. Every day I think... Maybe today... but its not there...

These experiences trying to find better pips that don't break the bank are just abysmal. So much time and effort and money wasted for no progress whatsoever. By the time I actually get this sheet, I won't even want to try it.

Isn't changing the properties of a rubber that is already approved by the ITTF expressly forbidden?

Agreed. I bite the bullet and stick with Dtec.

I noted above that I rec'vd different 388d sheets. I forgot to add that I also rec'vd differnt Globe 979 sheets. Being relatively new to LP....I'm sure there were others that I just never noticed.
Obviously manufacturing an LP isn't rocket science and I assumed it would be fairly straight forward, simple process. Didn't dawn on me that QC could be so poor.

or maybe a product of poor quality control? There is big difference in shade. Maybe inconsistent colorant
