Yes! Jian has a great example of an aggressive bump that he uses to set up a forehand winner.

Watch Jian Li. he will serve underspin, and when opponents push it he will bump it aggressively.

Depends on your rubber and sponge. If you have too much grip, you will need a slight upward motion to the bump. It's a flat hit. Bogeyhunter will bump on serves as well, he's really good at it.

Thanks Japsi.... I've seen this one before...

I bump, only over-the-table, and mostly against backspin (or what seems to be backspin), and typically to the opponents FH... However, I'll bump it long, 9/10 times...When I do get it right, I win the point outright.... The ball bounces, and seems to skid off the table. I think, it's grip/and or force thing.. I do tend to have a tight hold.

Hope it's ok to post this here as this topic hasn't had any posts for a while.
Basically I'm struggling to return heavy backspin from my practice partner who uses victas v401 in 1.5mm. I'm returning the ball with palio ck53a on my bh and it either just sinks in the net or if I open my blade a bit the ball goes long off the table. I'm wondering how this works, does the heavy backspin bite on the small amount of friction on the pips and therefore should I hit through it more but keep the bat angle more vertical and I lift it up while I play the shot. Any advice appreciated.

For me, the mudflap stroke works really well, against backspin, specifically with the CK531A (since it's not a grippy LP) ...

A big shout-out to Nathanso, for introducing me to this very effective stroke...

check-out the following thread, to learn more about it ..

I tried a fast hard push blade angle a bit more towards horizontal against this problem and it seemed to work better than anything else, different pip though.

Yes the mudflap shot certainly works well, it's then about learning how hard to hit the ball combined with how much lift.

I've come to realize that, for me, it works best with non-grippy LPs...

For me it depends on the alignment of the pips. This shot works best for me with horizontally aligned pips.

oh ... anyway, most of the popular LPs are with Horizontal Geometry.. . I've never had LPs with Vertical Geometry ..

I'm quite eager to get the Globe 979, which has Vertical Geometry..

Other vertically aligned pips are : Sanwei Dizzy, Saviga 77 Monster . For my technique I came to realize that horizontally aligned pips seem to work better .

I will also be changing my style/ strategy a little bit since it is very limited after a certain level, especially with this new ball .

Mudflap very difficult with frictionless rubbers.

Vertical pips are said to be better at hitting through spin whereas with horizontal alignment the pips really scrape the ball much more so you can put rotation .

You will notice that the chop tends to go more downward if you use horizontal aligment while the vertical one goes more upward.Choppers can roll smoothly with horizontally aligned pips.

I don't know why but in my experience ,I block much better with horizontally aligned pips.Vertically aligned pips seem to be good for attacking strategies.Consider Aggressor for example, it has vertically aligned pips .
