Kees raised this idea in another thread and its a very good idea. If you have played with an LP from one of the bigger companies ( usually relatively expensive) and a chinese LP (usually cheaper), let people know about it in this thread. If we get enough responses I will organise them into this first post.

Some suggested already:

Curl P1-r similar to Meteor 8512

Feint Long similar to Double Fish 1615

Yasaka Phantom Infinity similar to Xying 979

Feint Long 2 similar to Dawei 388D

I'll add another that I was surprised by

Hallmark Phoenix similar to CTT Pogo

Feel free to refute these if you want, but be prepared to back it up. They don't need to be exact duplicates in their characteristic, just close enough that you could get away with substituting for the cheaper one.

Thanks for starting this thread. I look forward to learning as I have generally only used Chinese(cheaper) Lp's as a general rule.

This is my kinda thread, being low in the dough.  I'll definitely keep a watch, because after I try and get down something basic as far as LP, I'll have to get something a bit more specialized.

The only LP I have used are Talon, C8, Pogo, 755, 837, 755-2, Phantom 0012, Feint Soft, 388D-1 and D.TecS.

None of them are the same. All of them are in different categories, although Phantom and 837 may have minor similarities.

D.TecS, Talon, Pogo and C8 are blocking material.

Pogo, 755, 755-2 and C8 are hitting LP.

755, Talon, D.TecS, C8 and 388D-1 are for chopping from the table.

Phantom 0012 is weird to play with. Pretty much all it has is an insensitivity to spin and some sinking effect. It can also chop pretty well.

Feint soft is an allrounders pips. Its a bit slow, but chopped balls can be kept really low with some backspin. Jang Song Man uses it.

Pogo, Talon, 837 and Feint soft are control pips.

Saviga V and hallmark phoenix are....IDENTICAL...same factory in china same mold....different stamp

388D-1 is very similar to feint long II...not 388D...it has smooth tops while d-1 and FLII have textured

P1r and 1615 are semi similar except the 1615 is slightly less soft.

octopus and p1r are VERY similar

feint soft and nittaku screw soft are very similar especially in OX

C8 and 1615 are very similar....in OX....the sponges are different

Prashida Long A Ox and Feint Long III OX i found to be the same.....but neither did i play for a long period of time

P1r and cloud and fog are very similar

Feint OX and Curl P3 OX are very similar

thats what i can think of for now....

I might have to keep an eye on this thread, I have been thinking about getting some LP to play around with recently, but obviously don't want to spend too much as I wont be using it seriously. :P

That's what many darksiders said until they discovered the challenge and fun involved!

Since the FLP ban, the cheap LP rubbers are just as good, or even better than the expensive ones. Especially with the demise of Insider and Grass D.Tecs.

Giant Dragon Long Talon Red OX similar to Tibhar D-Tecs Red OX (a littie slower, much cheaper)

Wow remembering that there are lots of X-rubber-which-plays-like-Tenergy threads, its cool to see one thread like this :)

Haven't use lots of pips so can't tell much :?:

Do you think Anakin Skywalker ever intended to become Darth Vader?

On another note, what is considered a really good chopping/pushing LP that can still do some hitting? Thanks.

dtecs, and talon chop and block well and hit well
pogo blocks and hits well I'm not so sure about the chopping but doable
Phantom 0012 can do all of those...the blocking isn't as potent but easy easy to hit with.
giant long is pretty all round and good at those things...

thats all i've tried that fit those categories.

Dawei 388D, black 0.5 mm (easiest, probably best)
Double Fish 1615, black or red, OX but perhaps better 0.5 mm (bit less reversal on hitting, though)
Meteor 8512 OFF, red, 0.5 mm or more (almost the same as 1615, chops slightly less well, but easy for varying spin)
MilkyWay Neptune, black, OX or thin sponge (less easy, very effective)
Globe 979, red or black, OX or sponge (still less reversal on hitting, but easy to make a bit of topspin instead, so you can hit real hard).
Friendship 837, red or black, OX or sponge (no reversal on hitting, very easy to attack anything, harder to chop low and consistently with).
There are more, but they are mostly more expensive. Globe 979 is reputedly still in use by some professional players (not in the top 100 I'd think), all of them are popular in China, although perhaps the Meteor less so.
