I like the technique. I'd have a huge problem against her.

Joola Razor.

Speed 68 Spin 84 Control 72

A long pimple novelty. The rubber has been developed in conjunction with probably the best European long pimple block player, the many times cadet and junior champion, Amelie Solja.

JOOLA RAZOR is designed for the player who actively seeks disturbing effect at the table. The new fabric strutcture of the rubber ensures that the pimples are long lasting and can easily be controlled. The "flap" effect is extremely developed and presents even experienced topspin players with big problems. JOOLA RAZOR - The cut-throat answer to even hardest topspin shots.

JOOLA RAZOR - never before have long pimples been so successful

For being a blocker she is too far away from the table to be affective. Her blocks should have more control they were way too high.

Is that 2309 a USA rating? I only got to see the 30 sec clip you gave. The kid she was playing didnt seem to be putting that much on the ball, but who knows? You really cant judge someone with that small of time frame.

Man alive, now we're offering her coaching after seeing her play for 30 secs???

If only she visited this forum, she'd be WR1 before the year's out.

PS I'm not usually sarcastic, but we don't know anything about how her pips work, what sort of spin variation she's creating, or how she's making her highly skilled opponents (who would kill any of us) hesitate so much. She's doing something tricky and I'd love to see full games of her playing.

ITTF news clips:

"In the third game SOLJA attacked with the backhand whenever possible, even covering her forehand to play a backhand. She went ahead 8-5, eventually winning the game 11-6.

The fourth game saw Amelie SOLJA go ahead 6-3, very determined, she continued the policy of attacking with the backhand, extending her lead to 7-5 eventually winning the game to put Europe ahead."

Of a mixed doubles win her partner said:
"“Amelie made no easy mistakes”, he said. “It’s hard for the girl playing against Amelie and it’s also hard for the boy; they make mistakes when she plays with the long pimples.”

Thanks BH. We're talking about the one with the 'Joola' shirt?

If so thats the best frictionless pip play I've seen - much better than Neubauer (who often bores his opponents to death). Very Prean in style except no twiddling and Prean used tacky pips and of course no disguise (this is almost impossible with frictionless).

Keep in mind Razor is a frictionless pip: then I think you'll understand the clip better. One stroke I didn't understand* otherwise I can go through each stroke if you want and explain the shifts in spin for each. That 'drop shot' that won the first rally was cool.

ITTF president - take note when you say 'frictionless has not produced any players of note'. Anyway its likely to be last of a breed if the ITTF gets its way - Razor will fall with the ban.

* ok it was a forehand chop - I just missed it (second rally)

The longer they leave the ban, the more pros will be using some variety of frictionless pip. The manufacturers are getting smarter in the design, and more pros are seeing the possibilities.

BTW, I'd enjoy your disection of the shots in either rally Mathias. Are you saying Amelie is attacking with something similar to Inferno?

Will do when I've a moment.

No pros will turn frictionless now with a ban impending, even if its going to take a long time. They don't like changing kit that much and stability is as important to them as performance. Greg is a good example of that with his shift to Destroyer OX, he was concerned about the discontinuity of TSP P2.

Its difficult to tell what type of frictionless it is, the strokes are well developed so even difficult strokes (where the rubber is sub-optimal) could be pulled off without it really being apparent.

That's why I said I like the technique and tactics.
Never seen this style b4 too. She put pressure her opp a lot, not waiting for mistake. Her opp gotta read spin correctly and precisely.
This style is very scarely.
Note: We watch only last 2 points of the match. My guess what that her opp tried to loop/top spin b4 put then had problem with the short-ball block.

Wait a min. Are we talking about the one in blue or green? My comments were about the one in green.
