Now, I don't have my new set-up, yet. I've sorted it all out, but i'm waiting on it arriving.

However, I have a sheet of 388D kicking around so I had a hit with it tonight.

I can defend well on both sides with the long, chopping loops back with relative ease and I can chop on both sides with the reverse rubber too, as well as float and throw in some topspins. I can also twiddle pretty well, so the ground work is there.

Just after some pointers on:

1) Angles - I tend to get out angled on the FH side quite a bit. This was never really a problem in the looping game because the shot was with longer reach whilst when hitting I was at the table anyway - a brief discussion on angles would be nice.

and

2) Returning service. This is the big issue. A lot of my service returns pop up. I can keep the loops low or vary this quite easily, but on service I tend to stick them up - especially off of chop serves, as the spin is reversed to topspin it just sort of sits up - what's the best way to control this?

Anyway, a most enjoyable experience and something I WILL persevere with!

Returning serves is obviously critical. if you find they pops up to much, you can brush the ball harder. Backspin is actully very easily attacked, which i do more often than pushing it back. Just hit through the ball softly with an open face, and it will drop nicely once you get the hang of it.
if there is little spin on the ball, brushing it sideway works well to keep it down, and can alos confuse your opponent...

Good on you for persevering... it can be a lot of fun...

Am I the only who has NOT tried the 388d???

I got the 388d proedition from presports a few weeks back. It felt awful to me, Hard to control and almost no spin reversal. It works beautiful as a attacking long pips, but for chopping and allround play its a pain in the butt.

hah, you guys....

Well your comment LawOCG has made me virtually lose interest completely... Sounds like the 388d-1 was a big improvement...

You are not the only one, I don't tried it
It would be difficult as it is not really known here.
