BH, thanks for the videos.

Okay, I am assuming that John is using HF the entire time in that video. On active chop blocking, the reversal is good but the passive block is not as good on reversal. It looks as though the contol is good either way and perhaps mixing passive and active blocks can be a useful tool for a blocker, like chop spin and no spin.

As for chopping, what did you find about active full swing vs short swing chopping? Is it better for the fast shorter strokes or the longer full swing?

I'm pretty sure John starts with his own black 007 on the bh with the hellfire racket sitting on the table. then there is an obvious racket change which puts the red hellfire on the backhand.

How good is Hellfire? Depend on style.

Not for players who want rubber to do the job for them. Spin reversal still not the top 5% of all LP.
Those with active stroke and like to control, place balls then Hellfire is good. Users, not rubber, control amount of spin reversal.

Set 1 and 2 - mainly try to play as a blocker.

Set 3 - a LP attacker penholder

Set 4 and 5 - a chopper.

For fun :

Follow up:

I used it again last night, mainly practicing matches against a 2300 level looper. My impression has not changed. It's a solid LP for the aggressive blocker/attacker, but not for passive blockers as spin reversal is only moderate. It's good for aggressive chop-blocking if you have good touch and a flexible wrist, better than DtecS in this regard (as it's slower). As for chopping it's very controllable but a light chop will not produce heavily reversed returns like DtecS would. I had to really dig into the ball to produce heavy underspin when chopping. Full chops produce similar amount of underspin as Talon Ox, but less than black Saviga V.

It's very easy to return serves with the Hellfire, but good wrist acceleration is needed to pressure the opponent. A passive bump will scrub some spin off and the return would not be dangerous for your opponents to attack. DtecS is much better in this regard as it seems to be able to introduce complex spin characteristics when passively bumping against heavy side spin serves. The more I play with Hellfire the more it reminds me of the TTMaster Insider... It's a high-quality LP with a moderate amount of friction to pass the ITTF test to enable LP blockers to continue playing their style, but at the expense of significant spin reversal. For this LP I'd recommend blades with long dwell time to enable progressive wrist action when blocking close to the table, as fast bumps with a stiff blade and locked wrist will not produce desired reversal when blocking. All in all I'd say it's as good as a FLPs replacement as it gets in terms of playability.

Have you tried hellfire on different blades? Fast, slow, soft, hard?

So far I've tried it on Firewall Plus and Defplay Senso... The glue sheet came off when I transferred the rubber from Firewall Plus, and I had to use another glue sheet (Tibhar brand) to put in on Defplay Senso, which is my favorite blade. Worked pretty well on both, but aggressive chop blocking is easier with the Defplay Senso as there's longer dwell time and more flex.

RoundRobin,
Since you play the defplay senso do you think hellfire would work well on that? The only other defensive blades I have are butterfly def 2 and joola chen weixing. I have been leaning toward putting my sheet on my Defense 2 but any suggestions are welcomed since I won't get my sheet most likely till the end of the month.

The gluesheet most likely influences the way the rubber plays, could you test it without the gluesheet as well?

Some strange news about the hellfire rubber: according to a post on noppentest by pascal tröger himself the rubber is too small to fit on a nittaku shake defense blade.

Of course stretching, leaving space above the handle and/or using VOC glue would fix this but this seems to be something that should have been fixed in designing the rubber.
