I've seen various threads where inverted rubber topsheets are rubbed with baby oil or vegetable oil to make it supple and soft. Has anyone tried it on a long pip sheet?? Has anyone tried boosting a pip sheet to soften the pips??

I've tried using a lot of chinese pips but none of there are as soft as Dtecs. Was wondering if there's a process to achieve this.

Just curious.

Of course its against ittf rules to do so and I never tied baby oil, but I imagine it could work.

Many years ago I tried a car leather protectant (armourall) and it seemed to soften up chinese pips a bit. I couldnt say how well it worked as I was so new to pips vs. now. If you did try it Id let it dry well...or the ball might be baby oiled too lol

DO NOT DO IT on long pips !

It expands the rubber and could ruin it.

And this is why the "recreational/experimental" section is fake news. Topics like this are supposed to be quarantined, because nobody would ever dream of using an illegal rubber in competition, would they?

Oh, I believe those photos. I'm even prepared to believe that the majority of the pros boost or find some other way to cheat. But that doesn't make it okay for me to do the same thing. You may recall an a pretty average cyclist called Lance Armstrong. If the amateur cyclist was like some of the posters here, then our weekend warriors would all be pumping themselves full of drugs.

Having said that, the thing that annoys me even more than the cheating is the pretending. "Oh, it's just recreational/experimental!" Sure it is.
