I may even use DG OX rather than the 979 OX for that purpose.

I was wondering how you came to that conclusion since Ridderz said very clearly he chops the ball... :^)

To defend 'irenic' a bit: what people say and what they actually do is not always the same. I've seen quite a few examples on this and other forums where 'chop' turned out to be more of a 'push' and 'loop' was something else altogether. There is no video to go by, no indication of the level/rating, but plenty of questions - so I kind of see where 'irenic' is coming from. Could be wrong, of course.

Yes, he also wanted to hit like domacc, who isn't standing at a distance to chop.

Grippy chopping rubbers need a generous swing to work, and of all the amateur "defenders" I've seen almost none consistently chop like that. Most do it with wristy chop or heavy push at or above table level. Plenty use P1r because Joo does, though. More often they win points with twiddling to confuse opponents than low heavy chops to draw out attackable returns.

Just to bring up this topic again, I think I've found that I get better results when playing with Hellfire over P1-R... it's marginal though.

So perhaps I rely more on borrowing spin than creating my own. So maybe I need to try a LP that will help me more when borrowing an opponents spin.

Would any of the Spinlord LPs be good? Or are there better?

I was reading this old thread and I thought it was funny to see just how wrong irenic was. Now that we know Ridderz is a pretty decent chopper... and definitely a “chopper.”

Developments since this thread are that I've had to change my equipment because of a severe rotator cuff injury. The Joo, max tenergy and 1mm p1r was too heavy for my shoulder and constantly aggravated the injury.
So I now use a 70g Tsp balsa 3.5 with 2.0mm victas v15 extra and 0.5mm p1r.
