Still looking for the 'perfect' pip! Use on f/h close to the table. I push occasionally chop but do like to flat hit. It has to be good control but troublesome for opponent reverse or disturbance ! Can't play d'tec to difficult tried No 1 but opponents don't find it troublesome. Any recommendations ?

You're trying to find two opposite characteristics of a LP. You'll never find the one without sacrificing the other.

Curl P-H. great for hitting. absorbs the speed of incoming ball well and throws a good knuckle ball/change-up. can easily keep blocks and pushes low. not much reversal.

Have fun learning the expensive acquired skill of applying ox grass to your blade.

I only use glue sheets for applying OX sheets to my blades now. I know some people say they can feel the difference, but honestly I'm not a good enough player to have that good of feel I guess. So much easier than gluing, and less expensive because you don't ruin perfectly good sheets when it doesn't go right.

I've been playing close to the table and hitting with long pips for some time.

I play 1.0 Palio ck531a.

Last night a buddy came over and I had a hit with this Tibhar Grass D.TecS in what I"m guessing is .6 sponge or maybe 1.0. Not sure.

I felt hitting and controlling with it was easier. The pips are about the same size as ck531a and smooth on the top for both. But they are most definitely shorter on the Grass D.Tecs. No doubt about it. I think that's why hitting with it was easier. It plays closer (I use that term loosely) to a standard short pip play.

My take away from the whole thing is that perhaps I might be on the search for a shorter length, easier to play LP. Not sure.

I've played LPs in OX. Not enough power to hit with them. Definitely prefer sponge to help get those slow balls hit to you back over.

Check out my blog on my journey (and video) of me hitting with long pips. http://chroniclesofgossima.blogspot.com/

My coach uses Dtecs in 0.5mm - he definitely feels the sponge is necessary for consistent attack. I rarely attack, and the skiddy effect of the OX LP hit is very effective, but sponge certainly helps. For me it's a balance - I prefer OX for close to the table blocks and pushes.

Maybe it's because I've been using OX for so many years, I am just so used to hitting with it. I've tried sponge and in most cases it just feels too much like a catapult to me. Maybe I should try once more, I do have some Grass D Tec S in (I think) 0.9 that I never used.

Based on my experience in feeling that the Dtecs was easier to hit with than the ck531a, guessing it's because the length of the pips are shorter, I've wondered if anyone here has ever hit with.

755-2 HALF LONG PIPS.

Being half long, I'm wondering if it would be an even easier attacking LP while still maintaining some funkiness.

You might want to try hitting with Talon OX but I may be difficult at first. I find I can hit really well with Dornenglanz 2 OX on a Off + balsa blade. You get some reversal with the DG 2.

I tried 755-2 and didn't seem to get any funk....

If you're going mid long, Pluto is interesting.

If you want LP.... I would check Crop Circles, or 755.

Talon OX is also got for hitting. I also think the DG 2 is good, less sensitive to spin and a bit slower than the Grass D Tec S, definitely less grippy. I've been going back and forth between the DG2 and Grass lately, I like the control of the DG 2 but when played right (and that's on me, I need to keep improving my skills) the Grass is probably more difficult for opponents to play against. DG 2 also handles dead balls a little better too, but I like the Grass better when hitting against under spin.
