Just curious, anybody on here try the Xiom Vega LPO, the new long pips from Xiom? It's only available with a 1.0 mm sponge right now. I feel like I need to freshen up my game so I ordered a sheet. Won't be able to play with it until the end of next week, but I was just wondering if anybody had an experience with it and had any tips. From a brief inspection last night, the pips seem to be somewhat grippy, not as much as my current Grass D Tec S, but there is some grip. Compared to Grass, they are a little thinner and more space between them.

I've tried a little bit the Xiom Vega LPO.

Very small pimples, it remembers me L.S.D or Twister.

Advantages :
It's very very easy to attack with LPO. Passive block are very easy because the sponge absords impact.

Disadvantages :
Sponge seems to have a "double effect", absords a lot in passive strokes and gives some speed in active strokes. The problem is just to find the "front line" :P.
Chop is easy but not very efficient and sometime the "double effect" of the sponge makes the balls go longuer :(
Active blocks have the same problems (sometimes fall in the net or go longer)

LPO have a great potential for an aggressive game but need some practise to well knowed its reactions.

I just had a look at a sheet as well. The pimples are certainly long enough to be classed as a long pimple, not "out" as indicated on the ITTF LARC.

Ha ha Reb you are funny! :D
I know I haven't been here for a while. Just been busy, and not much to tell about my game. Been occasionally lurking, but I didn't feel I had much to add to any of the threads.
Reason I'm trying new stuff is, I need to be more aggressive with my pips attack and I haven't been. Part of it is, I feel like the attack with the DTecS has been very inconsistent and I'm hoping to find a good balance between defense and offense.

So I had my first hit with this rubber tonight. It's not a terribly realistic type of match play situation, I just had a hit with a friend of mine who uses a slow long pips setup, so when we get together I pretty much pound away at him and he just tries to defend, and I get a lot of dead balls back.

That being said, I will be interested to see if it works well against a more "regular" type of player. For playing against him, it hit very well. With the sponge on there, I expected it to be bouncy or a little fast, but instead it actually felt a bit slow. The sponge seems relatively soft, so I'm guessing it's a defensive dampening sponge. I could definitely tell I was imparting spin on both hits and pushes, as he was mis-reading that aspect of my shots and popping up a lot of shots when he typically is able to keep most shots pretty low. He had more problems returning my hits to his pips with these than he did when I used the Grass DTecs in OX and when I tried the Dornenglanz 2 in OX.

I also tried out the Dornenglanz 2 in OX. I could hit pretty hard with it and it gave a very fast, flat ball. I was able to hit pretty consistently with both rubbers right away, which I was very happy about, and it felt more consistent than the Grass DTecS OX that I've been using for some time.

The true test will come against loopers and players that can give me heavy back spin. I probably won't have a chance to play again until next week, but when I do I plan to try out both again.

I had a brief hit with this rubber too... could not help myself.

Pips are quite soft and very grippy. They seem close to full size to me.
Sponge felt quite soft too, and seemed to absorb the pace on passive blocks, which surprised me. On attacks (against backspin) you can get really good pace, and you can hear the ping of the Tensor.
Chops against loops were really loaded. I was using it on a few blade which I wanted to try out (TSP Trinity Carbon), so it's a little hard to describe the full performance when using both a new blade and rubber.

Maybe you were getting a lot of pace on the hits because of the carbon blade. When I was hitting, I actually felt it was relatively slow (compared to my normal setup hitting with DTecS in OX or even the Dornenglanz 2 in OX) but very controlled and much more spinny than I expected. The sponge did seem very soft. I'm glad to hear that when you played against loops that it performed as I expected. I can see how it would be great for chopping with its ability to grip and impart spin, combined with the soft sponge. I'm really looking forward to playing some attacking players on Wednesday and giving it another try.

Guys, thabks for the reveiws.

Is your impression that this pip is grippy and meant for chopping? (Like p-1r)

Or is it more slippery like Dtecs?

I do think it's meant for chopping.

I've only had one session with it but initial impression would be yes, it would be great for chopping. It only (currently) comes in the 1.0 mm sponge, and with the soft sponge and grippy pips I could see it being very good for both adding a lot of additional spin or being able to give variations.

That being said, it also seems to be decent for attacking and pushing. It is able to generate its own spin on shots like serves and pushes. I can see some potential for being a decent blocking rubber thanks to the sponge, but I will have more of an opinion on that later this week.

Is it grippier than P-1R?

Dwruck, since you're in the US, where'd you get it from? Or did you order from overseas?
And if anyone ends up not using theirs, I'll take/buy them off you if it'll fit a oversized blade.

I have never used P1-R so I cannot make an honest assessment of that, I'm sorry.

I got it through www.tabletennis11.com

I did not find it with any American distributor yet. They are a site in Estonia.
