Hey guys,

I bought two sheets of the Palio CK531a recently, red in 0.6-0.8mm. The ones I received were somewhat hard, quite slick, shiny surface, purple sponge. It reminded me of the frictionless long pips I used to play against, and it felt very good to me. As I've been EJ'ing recently I had it on several blades, one sheet was easy to remove/apply on the different blades for comparison but one of the sheets was very easy to delaminate between the topsheet and sponge. So I ordered a few more (from a different shop), same blue package, same Palio CK531a stamp, but the rubber was different. Much softer, dull surface, cream sponge. I've only played with it for one session so far so I can't comment on how it playes, has anyone played with both and can do a comparison on what I can expect?

The topsheet molds seem different as there are some small differences to the graphics.

Thomas

ps i'll post some pics later.

yes. there are few different palios :)
yellow package - OX it has more reversal
green package - OX it has less reversal
white-blue-black package - comes only with sponge. it has most reversal from all palio but u need to separate sponge from topsheet.

tested all in OX

When I got some it looked like the lower picture - shinier and more translucent.

Huh I didn't know there was a purple sponged ck531a.

I'm very familiar with this rubber.

Have tried...

OX - yellow package
1.0 sponge - blue package, cream sponge.

Reversal seems high. But honestly of all the LPs I've tried, I feel the grip is about the same on all of them. Just light. (National POGO OX, Xiying 979 OX).

I play close to the table penhold twiddle game and I like to work in more attack (occasional topspin back vs topspin as opposed to always chop-blocking). The 1.0 attacks better.

Been while since I've tested it in OX. I really hate & dislike flimsy, thin base sheet LP rubbers in OX. Thus I don't use it anymore.

Xiying 979 has the thickest OX sheet I've ever seen in my life (almost like a super thin sponge) and gluing is so so easy. I even use rubber cement on it. No problem. Speed is super slow and I like that.

It also happens to chop away from the table better than my ck531a in 1.0 also. It actually is the nicest off table chopping LP i've ever tried. But naturally doesn't attack as well.

Ordered my first two sheets of CK531A .6-.8, from one store, and received one of each of the above. In my case it's the one with the lavender sponge that's a little grippier; the one with the raised line under the last row of pips had the lavender sponge and was a little grippier.

They're within a gram of one another so maybe the sponge hardnesses are the same.

Dazzler, did you get the lavender sponge or the light orange (creme) one from Eacheng?

In defense of the product, yes, the quality looks fine to me and I look forward to playing with it.

That's interesting :o :o :o Sounds like a modified version..."The treatment you cannot see"... I think Palio might be playing with fire here... if the ITTF got wind of this, they'll risk getting all their versions banned.

Bought Palio CK531A Ox Red twice from Eacheng on eBay at different times.
All of them with the yellow packaging.

The first batch came with the lighter red colour and was less translucent.
The second batch with the darker red colour and was more translucent and shiny.

Used a Newgy robot set on 20 speed for blocking practice with the lighter red on. I set it for a set of 50 balls and after the set when I looked at the rubber I had lost easily more than 5 pips. Used the darker red translucent one for another set of 50 but lost no pips. I'm not clued in so much on table tennis and robots so I don't know if that was an appropriate speed to practice blocking LOL so just relaying what occured. Both the rubbers were on 5W/2C blades of different makes.

MFL, FFL. I bet FL does mean friction-less and it could be only at the top (mount?) and fully. I really wouldn't care much if an opponent thinks he has to rely on such rubbers (had one using an illegal Donic Alligator recently) - but I'd probably would ask for a bat-replacement in competition and tournament if someone with a friction-less CK531A would show up - I suggest these rubbers have been tempered with after they've left the factory. On the other hand, rendering friction-less pips illegal by ITTF was wrong, imho, even if I don't like them.

but noone can say its illegal.
referee will see ittf logo and palio is on approved list so he will allow it
players can say s***, i mean opponent can talk, scream about illegal pip, but players can do nothing about it (he can make a request to referee)

I can say that they are illegal since I know how a standard CK531A behaves, and these 'special' ones would fail the minimum 25nm resistance test, the ball would slip on it without problems, even Butterfly SuperAnti does provide more resistance. If necessary I'd buy a new CK531A again just to be able to compare them.
