The more long pimple rubbers I try the more confused I get. I suppose I'm looking for something long pips don't proved and I need to sacrifice something either control, distruption or attacking ability. I've tried grass dtec but find it hard to control and to many pop up or I hit into the net. Dr N 1 seems to be the best all round rubber but not as distruptive. I'm also in a minority as I play long pips on forehand. Has anyone else experience DR N No 1 or has anyone got another suggestion that will tick all on my wish list. I play with the Dr N special balsa blade as I was told this would suit the No 1 does anyone disagree with this set up

There is more than one play style that LPs support, and it looks like you might have one of the more obscure ones. Broadly speaking you have push-blocking, chopping, and, I guess, hitting (is that what you are trying to do?), and each requires somewhat different properties from pips.

These properties are somewhat mutually exclusive: low friction - high reversal, but hard to add/vary spin on chops and vice versa. So - yes, it's a trade off, you just need to figure out what you value the most.

Because my forehand is my weak side my no 1 has to be a rubber that is very difficult for my opponent. I always play close to the table and my second objective is to push and the third is being able to flat hit. I do appreciate a lot depends on technique and when I say I don't seem to be able to control its down to my technique I'm sure.

Hi TT nightmare,

the Number 1 is a great LP! fantastic control & a great LP in general.

may i ask what thickness sponge you use? the reason I'm asking, if you go with a thinner sponge you will get more effect but still retain the LP you love to use.

Alternatively the Dr Neubauer Desperado is another great LP produces a very high disruptive effect with good control, the Viper is also good but the Desperado is better if your planning attacking also.

The no 1 is good for flat hits but not so effective for looping that having been said I'm not a natural looper more of a standard tops spin and if I revert back to that as opposed to flat hits I make to many errors. I've tried viper and thought it was nothing special. I haven't tried desperado what are the differences between Desperado and No 1 as I'd like to try but as you know Dr N rubbers are not cheap

Hi TTnightmare

The Desperado produces more wobble, but isn't as good for blocking, it requires more of a slight chop block, but the effect is good, i will put them both on the same blade and have a compare, and get an exact comparison.

Another good one more aimed at attacking is the all-round premium that one is still disruptive despite its attacking capabilities a couple of good players i know use that one,
again Monster classic is another good one i currently use that on my forehand with a 2.0mm sponge, although the general effect is minimal the pips can produce some good spin & even top-spin loop (with the right technique) therefore with the variations it can be disturbing to the opponent.

i dont suppose on the off chance your based in the UK? as i run bat testing sessions so people can test out rubbers and how they play without wasting money on purchases that are not right for them.

kind regards
Dark Arts TT

Hi V02man,

I run bat testing sessions to suit people, generally just book a time and date, i will arrange with the local centre and confirm, however if there is a larger group interested that are all from the same club we can travel to you wherever you may be in the uk.

There are more details generally and about what to expect etc on my website under the equipment heading (darkartstabletennis.co.uk)

TT Nightmare, thats great to hear, i would be more than willing to set up a test session with you if you like? so you can test a few out and get a feel yourself rather than relying on other peoples opinions on what might be suitable.

Kind regards
Dark Arts TT
