Yet another long pimple from the Dr the Gangster. Has anyone used it yet as I'd like to know the playing characteristics compared to the many other Dr N long pips

It's only just been released... :D

Here is the description:

GANGSTER is a new long pimple rubber that provides added value in a variety of fields.
GANGSTER was developed 100% for use with the new plastic ball.
The rubber enables to produce an effective blocking game close to the table, both while blocking passively and while chop-blocking.
All standard attacking strokes with long pimples can be performed easily, even for less experienced players.
GANGSTER mostly excels through its great control at all levels, this holds true for service returning, pushing over the table and even blocking against fast topspin shots.
GANGSTER: A highly interesting alternative for all close to the table long pips players!

Available as from early June 2017 with the following sponge thickness choice: OX (no sponge) 0.6, 1.0 and 1.3mm

Category: Long pimples with friction
Colours: red +black
Sponge: OX + 0.6 + 1.0+ 1.3mm
Speed: 52
Spin: 85
Control: 87

Par for the course..   Look at Andro's website and see if you can figure out when you're supposed to use a Rasant and when you're supposed to use a Hexer...

Your right Iskandar I haven't got a clue. So it's not just the jargon around long pips and dr N it's all manufacturers. That's why this forum is so good players will give there honest opinion but even then what suits one player doesn't suit another. Even when we find a long pimple we like we still look for that holy grail which I am beginning to realise doesn't exists and it's cost me a fortune along the way. But you never know the Gangster might be the one!!!!!! Here I go again!!!

Hi Everyone,

The sheet of Gangster has arrived!!

I got the sheet in red ox (no sponge) its placed on the backhand of a Dr N Barricade blade with Dr N Terminator (ox) black on the forehand. This is a very light set up weighing in complete at 90 grams! thats the same weight as most blades without the rubber on!

Photos are on my Facebook page (https://en-gb.facebook.com/DarkArtsTableTennis/)

As you can see the rubber sheet is very thin (for a ox) in fact its so thin you can see through it almost as well as a window! because of this the pips are very very soft and flexible, from an initial bounce on the bat its feels slow! a lot slower in comparison to the Terminator on the other side, sorry i know thats not exactly a good reference, however i can't really compare to Viper (ox) & Desperado (ox) as there on a faster blade (Jackpot & Kung FU) however it does feel a lot softer and more flexible than them.

Im looking forward to getting on the table and seeing what destruction this causes to my opponents loops  i will update once tested on the table.

A bit of advice to anyone considering this rubber in ox (no sponge), due to how thin and flexible the sheet is take extra care while gluing! FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PACKET!! i have glued a lot of ox rubbers but this one i found challenging down to how flexible the sheet is, i will admit I'm glad the neighbours where not in when i glued this as there was quite a lot of bad language when i stuck it to everything but the blade and i did mess up the first attempt  but thanks to the Drs contact glue with its very easy peel it was easy to get it back to normal and nailed the second attempt

Its not the hardest pips I've had to glue but take your time and be careful!

Hi TT Nightmare,

Glad your looking forward to the review, unfortunately i haven't had chance to test properly yet but i will have a proper test and do a review this coming week.

I will say from the brief go i was surprised by the wobble! the ball was allover the place :D   I'm looking forward to giving this a proper go, in fact the whole set up (barricade, Gangster ox & Terminator ox) I'm really looking forward to this, tempted to use this hardbat next season  but before i will make that decision i will test further.

I tried.
Very good LP. Slow with good spin revers. I didn't like on my darker blade. Will be excellent on stiffest and faster blade, I think...

Here's a shocker. I've been testing this and all the claims in the description are pretty much true!

I stuck it on one of my Barricade blades and it felt good right from the start. Great control. Good spin reversal. Perfect speed. Takes spin well. Takes hard hits well. Attacks well. Can execute all the normal long pips shots. Made some unforced errors due to not being used to it yet, but not that many.

My initial impression is for my game style this seems to be the best friction long pips I've tried so far. Don't know about the durability or whether I'll still love it in a month, but for now I can't wait to practice more with it.
