Not another comparison thread...ugh...sorry.

I've gone to the opposite side of the spectrum with my JSH blade. I really liked it with P-4 and the soft slow sponge, and extra grip. I've tried FL3 before on the Defplay and on a friend's JSH. Chopper88 has graciously donated his old sheets to me (thanks buddy) and I should be getting those in today or tomorrow. Keep in mind I'm about my USATT is 1600, but I haven't played in a tournament for over a year and I think I'm around 1700 or so based on who I'm consistently beating and losing to.

I really liked the FL3 on the JSH, more than the P-4 in the sense that I think FL3 is slower, and has a bit more spin manipulation, particularly on pushes. Also like the blade angle on chops. For the record, i played with it on the Defplay for a short time, and while I enjoyed it, my level was too low to understand it...the grip felt like a hindrance more than a help, and my bat speed was too slow to take advantage. Also, FL3 and Defplay is too slow.

My last grippy pip for the JSH to try is the P-1R 1.5~1.7mm. To give some background I've VERY familiar with P-1R in 0.5 and 1.0mm on any blade. Never tried the 1.5mm.

Therefore, I'm interested in your thoughts on 1.5~1.7mm vs. FL3 1.3mm.

-I know they are both grippy, and I'm sure FL3 is grippier, but how much grippier?

-I know they are both dampening, and that FL3 is the slowest LP on the market. But how much faster is P-1R in that thickness compared to FL3?

-How does P-1R 1.5~1.7 do with inverted style pushing vs. push? Is it similar to FL3? Or much slipperier in this regard. I find that pushing vs. under gets me netted balls often with FL3, which means I'm imparting counter underspin.

-How much heavier is the P-1R 1.5~1.7 than FL3 in 1.3? I already find the JSH to be heavy, don't want it to be like wielding Thor's hammer.

What I know:
Things I'm certain of, P-1R has more passive reversal, and more top-end spin possible but requires the right opponent who is wiling to feed you spin lots of spin. FL3 has more grip and can manipulate better, less dependency on opponent to feed you spin.

Lorre, I'm looking at you here as I know you have played with both in the exact same thickness, and both on the Joo Blade. But all others please chime in.

Good I follow your blog and you linked to this topic. Otherwise I could have missed it.

I noly played Feint III for two sessions, so keep this in mind. I'm playing the thickest P1-R for two and half years now (I think: might be a year longer).

On to your questions.

- FL3 is grippier, but not by much. If FL3 is 10, then P1-r IS 8-8.5.
- I found FL3 less dampening than P1-R. It might just have a more lively feeling, though. Feeling is different.
- If I mush horizontally, then I create mostly no spin balls. They are low and slow, though. All depends on the opponent's spin, of course. You're not going to win pushing rallies with your oppoent if you want to let them net the ball.
- I think it's heavier, but not by a whole lot. I can't put numbers on it.

Not much wiser, I guess, because I don't have a great deal of experience with FL3.

Thanks Lorre. I find it surprising you found FL3 less dampening. To me, it's the most dampening sponge of all LPs. The kawa sponge in 1.0 is definitely less dampening, but admittedly I haven't tried it in that thickness ...

Anyone else with an opinion or impression?

Ps, I'm already thinking about how I must try it in 1.5...

I have tried both and what I remember, P1r 1.5 is way faster and livelier than fl 3 1.0. Even P1r 1.0 is quite fast and lively. You could say that fl 3 is quite easy to play because of it's slowness, but P1r is quite demanding.

Yes, especially on hard hits I found it less dampening (bottoming out?).
