Just been trying out some lightly used sheets of grass dtecs 1.2mm and the red sheet seems to have harder pips with less disruption and more easier to play with my more short/medium pip techniques. Also recently found red 802.40 was a lot harder than the black I had been using and had no feel.

Is this common across pips out rubbers and if so which colour do you all generally prefer. I assume it is to do with the rubber composition e.g carbon black making the rubber softer hence most Chinese players using black on FH for more spin.

Planning to get schmerz 0.5mm and as my FH rubber needs changing I am not sure which colour to get

Well ..... you should say it would be the same right?
But .. I only use black. My whole life I play with black on my FH.
Whatever kind off ruber .. so the pips are all black with me (so FH).

Yes, due to the dyeing process of the rubber to give it the red & black colour, the black pips are usually a little softer & slower compared to the red. The red can have a little more reversal, which is why it's usually the preferred choice for players that play in-close with OX, where the reversal is most important.
The difference should be only minor though, and from my experience hardly noticeable in German/Japanese sheets, but more obviously in Chinese-made sheets.

I use black and chose softer and slower pimples so I think i'm ok
And if the difference is small I wouldn't notice it ...
I play with normal Skyline 2 and Skyline 3 and I really don't notice difference. I'm just not that off a high level player.

I have noticed the softer and slower black rubber theory with a couple of Ox lp's.
Bomb Talent was an obvious difference,388d the difference is there but not as big.....both Chinese
P1r ox I didn't see a difference...Japanese

Yes, black is softer, spinnier and slower. Red is harder, less spinnier and faster. I notice this a lot, both with inverted rubbers and pips.

I buy only black pips because some red ox pips are illegal on some dark blades.
So my FH rubber collection is completely red.

Played again with Grass Dtecs red 1.2mm last night. For an SP/MP player much easier to use than the black version but less disruptive. Still more dangerous when attacking with the latest Poly/ABS balls than most SP/MP rubbers - ball swerves and skids low. If I manage to master the red may try the black 1.2mm again
