I heard that Dr. Neubauer had developed a slower version of the Viper LP rubber so I emailed them & inquired.
Today I received this reply.
“We shall indeed launch a new version of 'Viper' named 'Viper Soft' within the next 2-3 months.
'Viper Soft' will be slightly slower than 'Viper' and - as the name suggests - the rubber formula is yet again a bit softer. This provides a bit more disruptive effect while blocking/chop-blocking and also more backspin while chopping.
'Viper Soft' should be available by June 2016”.
For me this is great news as I've had such good results with the Viper & I'm looking forward to try this new rubber.

Looking at Dr. Neubauer's website I see that the Viper Soft is available from June which is now.
Below is an extract from the website.
VIPER SOFT is a new development with even softer pimples.
The rubber produces a low bouncing, wobbly ball both while blocking passively and for chop-blocking.

The new rubber formula also allows for more backspin while chopping from behind the table.

Furthermore we managed to keep the outstanding attacking possibilities of VIPER for this new version, thus creating a long pimple rubber that excels in a variety of fields.

Also it is slower & produces more spin. I've had such good results with the Viper the prospect of trying the Soft is mouth watering

Yep, Carsten told me this week that Viper is now available. I'm resisting the urge, though, as I'm very happy with Dornenglanz.

I wonder how the spin reversal and "wobble" effect will compare to Grass D Tec S. It will obviously be slower than Grass.

"Dwruck" I changed to the Viper from the Grass D Tec OX about 7mths ago with great results slower with great spin reversal with much better control & with the write up claiming the Viper Soft is better on all accounts I can't wait to try it

For a while I'd changed to the Viper as well, because the blade at the time I was using a faster blade and needed better control. I actually liked it a lot, it attacked very well and was still tricky for my opponents. When I switched to a defensive blade I gave the Grass another try and found it to be a lot more controllable, and since it's still the most "tricky" rubber for my opponents that I've played with, I've been using that. But from time to time, it does cross my mind to maybe try Viper again. Maybe I'll get a sheet of the Viper Soft and see how I like that.

I think you'll find the Viper more tricky, I know I certainly did 8) Hopefully the V Soft will be more so

The Viper definitely plays a lot better on a harder/stiffer blade. I first mounted it on a Re-Impact Smart blade and the combination was just too slow. It was difficult for me to get my pushes deep and my opponents had an easy time smacking the ball back at me. I switched the Viper to the Hercules blade and it was a winner. I can pretty much control where my pushes go and the ball seems to be more "tricky" for my opponent than it is on the Smart blade. So if you have a soft/flexi blade, Viper may not be for you.

As you can see by my setups I only use Re - Impact Smart blades & the combination works perfectly for me.

would you say that viper or viper soft in general are similar to hellfire? good control grippy soft lp?

if someone had played both can you please compare them?

I will be trying a Viper Soft OX on my Re - Impact Smart blade very soon, I will compare the difference & give my opinion on them when it arrives.

Viper ox v Hellfire ox on defplay both in black:Viper pips are softer, the grip is higher, more backspin when chopping, more spin sensitive. Not enough passive reversal from either for me, both attack well.I only used for 1 session, probably the blade is nor suited for a blocking game particularly with Viper
