Hi everyone,

I moved to new area last March and when I went to a local league in my area I beat everyone in my group (lowest group) and two guys got upset and started talking trash to me but at way more than a friendly level.

It was really discouraging because I'm new to the area. I haven't played since but I just got a table for my garage and I'm coming back!!!

My last set up was short pips forehand and long pips backhand.

I have to say that I don't agree on the term 'junk player' for someone using rubbers different to pimple-in/grippy. Even if a region says the term has been socialised it is for sure not invented by a/the 'junk players' itself. For comparision there could be someone playing like junk - unskilled, clumsy, unable to hit the ball properly and unable to accept that someone else simply is a better player.

Then, if a few players talk trash - especially after losing from you - it shows their inability to cope with your skills and to manly face their own shortcomings. Sounds to me like they're much closer to 'junk-status' than you are.
It never is the material that wins the game, it's just the tool in the hand of the skilled.

Yeah I use the term junk affectionately. One guy said my game was 'garbage,' but I left him know that my garbage game just beat him. I made him feel really stupid when I correctly guessed he used tenergy and said my whole setup was less expensive than one sheet of his rubber so who was relying on equipment.

No that wasn't me on ebay.

Anyway I'm over it. I'm going to look for another club and do tournaments. Haters going to hate.

Also, if you kick some ass from that other club, in local league or otherwise, somehow make sure they know why you are not their teammate.

I often trash talk during games when opponent's junk won a point. Nobody takes it seriously as I am known to play junk permanently from the very beginning.

One former upper-intermediate junk player decided to play inverted BH because of his own "fair play" opinion. He had not returned to its former level during several years. Funnily he recently tried LPs again for short time but it didn't work for him anymore. He is the most active anti-junk hate speaker in local TT-forums. Remarkable love-hate history.

Everybody is different but I personally give a flying F what others think of me or my game. I play a lot of tournaments and rarely get any deragatory comments bit if I do, I don't care..Not going to waste sleep over what soneone thinks about my game or equipment.

Generally speaking junk rubber players do not get the same respect as a double inverted player.

Style doesn't win points in a game, just keeping the ball on the table.

I have beat a player using Tenergy 05 on their 4h using a hardbat with rubber costing $7 each side.

We have a 1600 to 1700 lady here who uses mp on fh and lp on bh. She generally just stick out bat, blocks with a loose hand, and giggles when macho man try to attack again and not read spin or ball depth.

The dudes here are ready to tear out their arm and nose hairs over their continued losses to her in league.

The only offensive shot she does is a fh poke with the mp... it wins points.

Dudes here are so ready petition ittf to ban her it is silly funny.

We are talking about legal pips here? Because I tried this whole "just stick out your bat" approach for quite some time and it's much less effective than you'd think, even at that level. Now, of course, my hand might not be 'loose' enough, but who knows...
