Amirreza Abbasi World Junior Rank #36 beat Kanak Jha World Junior Rank #1 at the World Junior Championships in Bendigo Australia

What equipment is he using, bh long pips ?

What style does he play, close to table or chopper ?

Kanak Jha is Junior Number 1?? How interesting. Are there many Chinese in the Junior ranks, or maybe none at all???? Will have to go look it up..

Junior U18 events and regular world tour events are kept separately for rankings. Harimoto evidently wasn't very active in Junior events.

That's quite amusing... Kanak Jha's probably been doing pretty well while we weren't watching.

To answer one part of the original poster's question, Amirreza Abbasi is a close-to-the-table blocker. You can see him playing here:

I don't know what equipment he uses, however.

I am wondering whether it is a frictionless anti on his BH :^) as it does not seem like long pips to me. Appears to be very effective nevertheless. Thanks for sharing the video TraditionalTradesman.

The best close up I could see, looks like long pips, his pushing technique looks like long pips too.

At what point of the video is the close-up? I would like to take a look to satisfy my curiosity of it not being long pips :)

Here is an ITTF news article by Ian Marshall says "he uses long pimpled rubber on the backhand."

My best guess OX or .5-7mm

Can you really tell???? I can't. Of course, he looks different from long pips choppers (Joo, Gionis) but other than that I can't really tell. His style also looks different compared to Manika Bhatra. Whatever it is he can return balls with it, and the balls don't seem terribly remarkable. He doesn't, for instance, try to keep the ball short. Kanak Jha also doesn't seem to have much trouble reading or dealing with the spin, either. Kinda too far away to see much, too.

That link refers to a report from earlier this year in Feb. I am still unconvinced it is long pips as his stroke play seems very similar to Luka M and Amie S who are frictionless anti players.

He doesn't play much like Amelie Solja, though..

I doubt he has changed his rubber. I do a long pips agressive push like his. There is an old Chinese tour pro teaching that LP push on a recent video.
