There are too many good Chinese pips that in OX are quite similar in giving good reverse spin.

755 OX, 837 and the medium pip 586(??) I forget the number will all perform.

755 and 837 (I've not played with this but heard it was more controllable version of 755) allow the user to add their own spin and manipulate their opponents a bit. 586 (or whatever its called) OX would give alot of spin reversal and allow flat hitting.

I guess the draw back for these pips is that they will be too fast and would have to be used in conjunction with a slow combi blade.

To be honest 755 OX is not a bad rubber at all.

The one rubber I will miss is Donic Allegator soft. I put this on TSP sponge and speed glued it. The result was great I could really rip on spin or give great reverse spin depending how I played the shot. I do like SuperBlock but I've kinda accepted its time to move on.

The most update information from Dr.Nebuaer about the LP Banned (I got mail from Carsten Neubauer today)

1. Minimum friction level
The ITTF has indeed set a minimum level of friction coefficient of "25" micron.

2. In any case all current frictionless long pimpled rubbers on the market
(including all our current long pimpled rubbers as well as TSP
Bamboo/Cactus/Combi; HALLMARK Friction Special/Original/Super Special etc..) will be banned.

3.Measurement
The rubbers will be measured during homologation.
Also the ITTF is planning to have a small device to measure the friction during tournaments.

4.Timing : Will be Aug 08 onwards

Wow, thaknnks for the update, that's great! I guess that list includes the obvious one.. hopefully there will be a complete list soon...

Did Dr N say anything about any new LP they may be developing that satisfies the new criteria?

Cheers!

I think he has just started working out since the cof. level just available for 2 weeks. However, I believe Dr.N will do something that can surprise the world as he did for the frictionless long pip. The question is 'when' it will be available.

Carsten is a nice guy. Of course they will all be working like mad on new designs- lots of experimenting.

I'm sad about the Virus, it will go too. After now trying Virus II, Curl Combi, Razor, Inferno, 837, 955 (all in OX), & 755 Faster, I've decided I like really soft pips the best. Virus II is/was my favourite.

I presume it will be hard to make soft pips perform as well under the new rules..? :shaking:

There is no official list out yet on which will be banned, is there?

Erhh... I don't think it is great at all, but there's not much we can do. Half the forum will need to learn a trade. I'd rather say,
"Thanks for the update, what catastrophic news" or "Thank you for the catastrophic news"
Well at least we know that Xiom is safe, lets hope anti-spin isn't affected otherwise Hookshot might call it a day

Yeah yeah, I meant "great to finally have some real news", you know what I meant... of course it's BAD news!

There will still be frictionles pimples, just not sure where they've drawn the line

It's also good to know there ARE instruments out to measure the friction level. I'd love to get hold of one of these machines! If know knows where to buy one, please let me know!

Yep .... in space. :pale:

I guess the line is a zero gravity environment. :pale:

Think we'll need to set up a section on the website about transfering strokes from frictionless to soft pips and several points of contribution. I know a fair bit about this, but I suspect the upshot is alot of players will need to adjust their strokes.  :| :shaking:

LOl!

Well according to Pimple Lover "The ITTF has indeed set a minimum level of friction coefficient of "25" micron."

So there's the line, I just have no idea how to measure that!

We need a list to find the borderline cases!

BTW In future manufactirers should be able to publish these figures with their rubber... YEAH RIGHT!

Wow, you're a great source of information Pimple Lover!

Yes I remember from physics what the factors mean... I just don't have a feel for what this means in reality for TT...

I think the method will be

- Put some standard material (object) on top of the rubber.

- Then tie it with the force guage and then pull it along the rubber surface.

- If the friction is high , the object will be difficult to move then the reading value of the pull force will be high.

- If the friction is low , the object will be easy to move then the reading value of the pull force will be low.

Yes I think that makes sense... or perhaps a rotating object where the measure the resistance...would be easier to do. The pressure on the pimples would make a big difference, so they would need to define that as well. Where's that list?
