I'm Developing defending style on both ( forehand & long pips backhand )
I started this a few days ago

I need Tips for the Technique, please ... I'm hoping to know some good advice from choppers here for the Technique as a beginner

These are some of the questions that run through my mind

*** Timing : I know the best time is when the Ball start falling ... but what will happen if I didn't wait like I was in a bad position
can the ball still land on the table in any way?

*** Blade Head : At the beginning of the Stroke, I know that I have to carry it vertically
But my question at the moment you contact the ball the racket must be vertically or can I down it horizontally?
I'm asking For both forehand & backhand long pips

*** Feeling : what is the feeling of a correct chop ? ... do you feel the blade more or brushing rubber ?
and if the two give me an approximate percentage
example : ( 60% brushing rubber feel & 40% blade hitting feel )

Best Regards :)

First off, do not make it all about theory, you need practice. Timing and brushing and all that comes later. Start with trying to find a good chopping motion that works for you. Have someone hitting balls ro your BH and start chopping. Aim at the center line of the table, 10-20 cm from the edge of the table, try to place all chops there. Don't bother about spin and height. Consistency is what will give you the points later on, not amount of spin. So try to read the ball's path towards you, so you can find the rright distance for every ball. Bend your knees and don't chop too lightly (you need to put some power behind the chop).

Here is a good video with one of the best choppers: https://youtu.be/CF8vS9cNfrM

There are a few other good instruction videos, they are somewhere here (in video section or in technique section).

One thing I did for far too long... and should save you a lot of misery!! Is along the lines of what Def said.

I used to focus on massive spin generation - like a brush loop in reverse. Just tremendous spin! Any of the lower end players would net the ball or send it off the table, even going for a push. However, when I played better players the real flaws came out.

My ball was always too high and too short! Super spin is hard to place long and low, until you get really adept at chopping against different types of returns.

So, I would recommend hitting more through the ball so that it stays low and you're able to control the depth. Once you can keep it low, to avoid being smashed, adding in spins or doing the pure brush chop is a good change up. Just my thoughts on it
