I’ve had a really good session with Dornenglanz. Well I could certainly hit with it far easier than grass dtech but the blocks and chop blocks are way less effective than grass. The disturbance effect is minimal and therefore doesn’t really trouble the opponent. It’s easy to control and maybe if someone can really hit hard winners then may be this is a pip to consider. Overall I was really disappointed with how easy my opponent could return and return with interest. I will be reverting back to dtech and will have to accept it isn’t an easy rubber to hit with but the reversal / disturbance is second to none and one that I don’t want to compromise.

If you carefully read the posts on Dg, you will see that Dg works best when broken in.You cannot put the rubber down with so few training sessions.Normally, you need to train for one month and a half or two to really realise the full potential of the rubber .

THEREFORE,the blocks and chop blocks are NOT way less effective than grass. The disturbance effect is NEVER minimal and IT really troubles the opponent......... have the patience to break the rubber in .... and also, you need the blade that works best.Grubba all + pairs very well with DG .

The problem is that when you enjoy the potential of the rubber, chances are the pips will start falling off.The harder the shots you get , the sooner the pips will fall off.

DG, definitely works better on a faster blade. Tried mine on both slower Allround blade and a fast balsa carbon blade. DG's effects disturbs the opponent better on my T11 Blade. Balls returns fast and low and you can still consistently block the topspin well. But unfortunately cannot use this setup due to my forehand style does not suit well with this blade. I don't actually want rely too much on my Long pips during play, which this setup make me play only BH with pips :)

So what blade would be best for the DG. I don’t want a balsa blade as I’ve used these in the past and since the new ball I have tried to stay away due to inconsistencies. I’ve heard the viscera blade would be good.

further to my previous comments on GDT vs DG ( a disclaimer - I don't claim in any way to be an expert, or even good, with LPs...)

with DG, I could vary the shots a great deal more - I could attack a loop by punching through it/ rolling it back, or chop-blocking, or playing dead. I could bump or even slow roll a chop back. This provided a lot more unpredictability for the opponent that when I used GDT - GDT provided far more pure spin reversal, but I had nowhere near the control and ability to "work" the ball that I had with DG.

As a looper, I would far rather play against someone with GDT - as I know I am basically getting a very pure spin reversal back - than DG, where I had very idea what the opponent was going to do, and what their spin return was going to be.

The slower speed of DG also meant I was able to be more creative, and aggressive.

A side note - I played with DG for about 18 months, and didn't have a single broken pip. Maybe I was just lucky!
