Thanks for posting!

Yes, 388-D and also 388-C has been approved and then disaproved again on a few occasions, not sure what's going on... it's probably related to payments to the ITTF I suspect.

Yes I also heard it has something to do with fee payments

But in the case of 388-D I think it was a great frictionless rubber in the 38 mm & 40- celluloid ball world & obviously ITTF had to step in & punish them.
388D-1 is more of an all round rubber in the 40+ plastic ball world since 388D -1 is a reincarnation of 388D with lesser friction.

I do not know what the story is with 388D-2 compared to 388D-1 (It is ITTF approved)

I've always wondered what the difference between D-1 and D-2 were.

Structure: The particles are tall and large, with a golden ratio. The moment the ball touches the ball, the colloidal particles undergo strong deformation. Features: Use spin to spin, counter attack *Block the ball with sharp backspin, erratic *Short swing near the table, unexpected *The attack ball sinks, strong power *Cut the ball to produce strong backspin The new 388D-2 medium-grain long rubber, its performance As simple and clear as the packaging brings you. This long rubber is specially designed for technical players who like the unique feel of long rubber and pursue offensive skills. It is once formed to be strong and durable, and can participate in regular competitions. This offensive long rubber brings us not only speed, but also weird ideal arc and controllable performance. This new feeling needs to be experienced slowly before you can fully utilize it. It also allows you to use this long glue to exert its offensive performance.

The problem with this, as with almost all table tennis rubber advertising copy, is that it doesn't really tell you much that is useful. OK, so the pips on D-2 are larger. And I sort of get the idea that D-1 would be better for choppers and D-2 has better attacking qualities.

In any case, mystery solved. If you look on the LARC there's a new B-1 sheet with numbers (20-004) - this is the one that's coming out in 5 colors. . It's the newest Dawei rubber with numbers, so the old one without numbers has being taken off. The new sheets of D-2 in five colors is also a new version with numbers (20-001). More will follow, I suspect - the old numberless D-1 is still on the list, as are many others. Expect "numbered" versions soon.

(And if this were 10 years ago we'd have had all sorts of people whining that the new numbered versions are DIFFERENT... why did they make the change, it ruined them.. )

Iskandar

I tested 388d-2 ox and found it to be gripper and slower then 388d and d-1,more spin sensitive making push block trickier,my opponent found it easier to play against,I imagine it would work better on faster blade's and could be a good attack pip on these.I wish they did 388d in green it would be less translucent than red

It will be interesting to see how the different colours vary in grip, and disruption. Usually the black is grippier and more controlled.

Just order it on AliExpress. The problem is the regular shipping takes a while, if you pay for the expedited shipping it will come sooner. Might as well buy several sheets while you are at it.
