Hey all,

I'm new here, and yup I'm another long pipper. I'm 26 and have played for around 6 years. Lately I have become obsessive about improving my game. Nice to see so many pips users here, this is i place we won't be shunned  . I feel like second class citizen at most of the clubs I have played at. My career is as a classical musician. I appreciate diligent practice in everything i do. It's a good thing I don't have any siblings that are also obsessed with tt otherwise I'd never stop playing. My long term goal is to one day break usatt 2000, i don't know how feasible that is, i'm currently around 1600. Thanks for creating this wonderfully supportive tt community!

Great to have another long pip player along JuicyHook!

I'm sure we have plenty of information here to help you along, and if you can't find it, just ask! ;)

Born in 1955. First table tennis experience: dad painted a piece of plywood green and set up a table in the basement. Equipment: cheap bats. no sponge, pimples out. In other words flimsy hardbats. Loved it. Played at the YMCA sometimes. You went to the desk and they handed over whatever was left, including well-worn sandpaper bats! I liked those too. After growing up, never played ping pong again until my forties, when a table was set up at work for use in lunch breaks. Bought a Stiga premade with inverted and started having fun again. So much so that I joined a club (in London). Shock! I saw a heavily spun loop for the first time. And nasty serves which popped up or drove my return into the net! Joined the local league. Felt inadequate with my pre-made and asked the coach for advice: Applegren Allplay with Sriver 1.5 both sides. (how I wish she'd looked at my formative years and advised short pimples on sponge! Imposible for a coach to do?) Now I experienced the effect of heavy incoming spin on my grippy rubber. Arg! Got beat by everybody (nearly) in my first year in the league, including a highly coached and talented 10-year-old boy. Dedicated myself to learning how to loop, both forehand and backhand. Moved house and didn't play for another few years. Took it up again in my 50s. Worked on heavy looping, forehand and backhand. Injuries started cropping up. Old injuries recurring and some new ones. Shoulder ligaments and golfer's elbow. When injured, toyed with hardbat and pimples rubbers, because they don't seem to involve the straining dwell time necessary to loop. Enjoyed hardbat and tried in in summer league. Found it fun but very difficult to deal with the speed and topspin coming from accomplished topspin players. Got some great smashes but finished with a poor win ratio. After finishing last year's winter league (2011-2012) with Hurricane 2 FH and Rakza 7 BH on a Stiga Allround Classic (and the injuries worse than ever) I have finally, for recurring injury reasons, put the smooth rubber aside and am trying to build a game from scratch with short pimpled rubber and sponge (sometimes playing around with medium pimples as well). I would like to play like Johnny Huang, a two-winged fast attacker, but in reality I play a close to the table block and smash game: Looking for the angles. Placement rather than raw power. The old man's game. Memories of fizzing loops receding into the past.

Hi JSheehan!

That was a well expressed introduction!

I too am injury prone and playing a different style than I used to.

The Short Pips can be really fun, but there is quite a learning curve. As I'm sure you will agree, there is a lot of enjoyment in hitting accurate shots with the help of a rubber that reduces the effect of incoming spin!

Welcome to the forum!

hi My name is Eddie I am 47 years old from Melbourne .I play in Dandenong ttclub and my rating is from div1-2 .My blade is tachi with donic coppa platin jo soft 2mm black as F and yasaka antispin red on backhand . My game is focused to use my anti to setup a strong forehand attack .
Started playing as a kid then I let it go up until recently when friends invited me to join a club in Dandenong.
So far played 2 vets competitions one in Geelong and one yesterday in msac Melbourne , my doub..partner Reb.As a team we do pretty well as Reb plays with long pips and myself with antispin . In the Vets comp I play in division 2 I think div 1 is to strong for me.
Looking foward to chat to you guys here ....Reb told me to join the forum so I did

Welcome to the forum mate! Sahmaniac is quite the TT maniac guys! When he's on fire he's very hard to beat. Yesterday I witnessed him demolish some very good players, but as he said, not quite up to div 1 standard...but then div 1 standard is somewhere around 2300US or higher (but the way he played yesterday was not that far off it).

Hello everyone :)

My name is Mohammed, I'm Moroccan, I live in France - Toulouse since 1994, I've been playing table tennis since I was 12, on some thinny table all decayed wood :D but then since 1997 on a french table tennis club, then I stopped on 2003 and restarted again last year, I'm currently 35

I enjoy playing near the table, blocking, flat hitting style, and sometimes driving, I have 950 points in the french ranking system
I'm a physician in a public hospital in the emergency department, I very much enjoy it, even if it's stressful
I like hiking and photography, here's a personnal website where I put the pics http://www.naturelight.org
...and I've stumbled on this forum using search engines... like many of you I think

And of course I enjoy the kindness of many many Members here :)

Cheers !

Welcome sahmaniac. Do you think you can organize some sort of Reb-cam the next time you play at Dandy? The many followers of 'The Reb Report!' are very keen to see him in action!

Hello all,

my name is wahyu amin. I am indonesian. I've falled in love with TT since last year. I play table tennis regularly (three times a week). I am 30 Years old.
for the last 10 months, I was a shakehander. now, I am penholder with shakehand bat (single sided).
my first bat is a gold cup bat then after a month using it, i took off the rubber. I changed it with ritc 2000 tack speed both FH and BH. after 3 months used gold cup blade with ritc 2000, I bought a very-very old gergely ($35) from my friend and I put ritc faster as my FH and ritc higher as my BH. nowdays, I play penhold with gergely and took off ritc higher. so there is only one rubber on my blade coz you need a light setup for penhold style.

thank you
