Just wanted to bump this awesome thread. I try to re-read this every year or so to remind myself to focus on strategy instead of just playing in a reactionary way. This write-up is a great example of a game plan for modern defenders to use to prevent offensive opponents from dictating the way points are constructed. It puts the advantage in the defender's corner if they can execute the strategy effectively. Again, great post!
