Getting the following error repeatedly tonight:

"General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Too many connections [1040]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists."

It's likely that your site is being scraped on many, many connections at the same time by one scraper. You may want to ask your host if there's a way to limit how many connections a particular IP address (or better, an IP block) can open each second (or each minute).

Thanks nathanso, I just noticed that myself.

In the last day we've had a huge number of spammers, most from Russia, registering and trying to post spam. Ity may be related to this. I've got support looking into this already. I will ask about limiting connections per IP... sounds like a good idea!

We seem to have become a real target in the last week or so...

The problem should be resolved now... according to support, there was another user on the server that was 'abusing the MySQL system", who has now been suspended. Let me know if anyone has anymore trouble...
