Due to the limited amount of rubbers/blades that are descent, and released in a year, The best rubber/blade of the year category would be quite limited, and there is less chance that someone would have used a rubber or blade that was released this year, further limiting the amount of votes. Maybe a 5 year period would be sufficient? Overall I do think that this is a good idea. It helps people find a good rubber and blade combination as-well.

i think we should make everything more general - not so many different ones. that'd be easy then :) IE best new rubber (across all) best new blade, etc etc. best rookie player, and best player etc etc.

I like that idea....for example we could make it simple best new rubber of recent times... we don't have to define if it's in the last month year, last decade... just 'recent times' and the vote will take care of the rest.

We can certainly learn from the issues of last year (lack of nomination, lack of votes or lack of interest for some catagories), but it would be good if we don't change catagories every year, or the page showing results of previous years will look like a mess.

I was hoping that someone might be able to help me run this thing? What I need help with is as follows:

1. Via public discussion here, help sort out when catagories we'll be voting on for this years (trying to keep some consistancy with last year if possible)
2. Start the request for nominations for a catagory
3. Stop it after 1 week and start the poll, and request for nominations for next catagory
4. Close each poll after 1 week and annouce winner
5. Help in design the awards page, annoucing all winners from this year and previous years
6. Decide how we can notify winners and offer certificat/rewards for winning the catagory.

If anyone can offer help with one or more of the above, please let me know. Without help it's too much work for me alone, and it's not going to run smoothly so I'll have to can this idea, which would be a real shame... :( :( :(

I think you have your answer haggisv. A forum with over 3000 members and only 9 voted on whether we should have the awards and no one has come forward to help you. That's a very sad indictment - whatever the reason - of the lack of will to support the forums development when all that is asked for is a little help and none is offered.

I'll help, but it's done with absolutely no expectation that the awards will be supported / any interest is held in the awards. Pity. It was a good chance for someone other than a mod or spam buster etc to contribute something back to the forum. And if people don't like this post, tough. I don't like the apathy or lack of willingness to give something back to this forum ie offer to help haggisv regardless of what thread or poll or whatever is asked for. ;( Sometimes reading posts or simply being a member isn't enough. Sometimes members need to give a little help back.

As a long time reader of forum threads but newer poster, I feel that some form of awards, nominations, voting are very interesting, and informative.

Point taken. And my apologies to haggisv for not volunteering assistance.

Truth is, I shy away from offering to help with things because I'm just not organised to do a job reliably. (Pathetic excuse, I know, but I am crap at organisational stuff.) The one I would have like to help with was the mapping of TT clubs, but I was defeated on that score because I couldn't work out the computing processes in google maps. If anyone can walk me through the necessary steps (a la Debater's vid's on the User Control Panel) then I'd be willing to put transfer the data from the thread. Anyone?

That's one project I'm still really keen on too... but I suffer from the same lack of skills to impliment it as well. :( :( :( If we do get some help in that area, I would gladly take up your offer of helping to transfer the data from the thread... cheers Tassie!

I am happy to help out with running it, the only issue I might have is sorting out categories and that sort of thing. As I am just getting back into things I am a bit out of date with equipment and all the new releases happening, as well as top player movement in the rankings, etc. But I can organise to run the threads/polls/announcements/notifications, etc...

I would be happy to help with designing the awards page, I do plenty of image designing at school, PM me what you would like me to make and I would be happy to help.
