Yes I'd like people to see the banners, but not get annoyed with them. It's a fine balance  I suspect most people don't mind either way, or there would have been a lot more complaints in this thread.

It's the little box just above your post, that promotes some of our forum projects, ;)

I don't like how it's currently implemented. Positioned between posts it looks too much like a hidden post from a member on one's Foe list (wha.?!) it also breaks up the normal flow of posts.

A better place to position it would be above the first post in the white space above "Previous topic | Next topic" and below the "All times are UTC - 8 hours" (your time zone may vary).

Let me also suggest you redo your banners, creating one banner per product type. The science of banner ad creation is incredible specific since advertisers spend billions on such ads, so it's well known what works in a banner. I'd suggest..

o Have separate banners for blades and rubber, as stated above.

o Use an image of 2-3 blades in the blade banner, and of a sheet of curved red rubber in the rubbers banner. The images should instantly convey the subject matter.

o Tighten up the text to something like: "Blade reviews on Butterfly, JOOLA, Yasaka, TSP, and more! Click here to see!"

o Always include a call to action (CTA). This improves click-through rates significantly. "Click here to see!" is the CTA in the example above.

o These are banners you could pay to run on other websites using Google Adwords > Display Network > Managed Placements, though you'd probably want to use different banner dimensions.

In the USA, most web marketing firms follow Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) guidelines.
http://www.iab.net/guidelines

For static ad images, our company recommends the IAB "Universal Ad Package" sizes only on our websites and build the site designs around these sizes. These sizes are almost universally accepted. For mobile devices, Flash, pop ups, and other "rich media" formats the guidelines vary.

[width x height in pixels]

Universal Ad Package (UAP):
180 x 150 Small Rectangle [Not on the Google AdSense list for some reason...so will probably be obsolete soon.]
300 x 250 Medium Rectangle
728 x 90 Leaderboard
160 x 600 Wide Skyscraper

Another important size:
300 x 50 Mobile Leaderboard [for iPads and mobile devices only]

Some other sizes not recognized by Google but still used by other ad networks:
300 x 600 Half-Page
200 x 200 Small Square
120 x 60 Small Button
88 x 31 Micro Button

I would recommend that all of your ad/link images be one of the sizes listed above.

Google AdSense has its own list of acceptable sizes, though the more common ones (i.e., on the UAP list) will get more views just because more sites use those dimensions. http://support.google.com/adwords/bin/a ... swer=97526

The sizes below are considered obsolete by the IAB and not recommended:
250 x 250 Square Pop-Up
240 x 400 Vertical Rectangle
336 x 280 Large Rectangle
300 x 100 3:1 Rectangle
720 x 300 Pop-Under
468 x 60 Full Banner
234 x 60 Half Banner
120 x 90 Button
120 x 240 Vertical Banner
125 x 125 Square Button
120 x 600 Skyscraper
