I think that regarding dead topics like the ones in the buy and sell section which are no longer used (e.g. threads which items have all been sold), you should lock them/delete them/start a new section called "archive" which is where old and dead threads are left to die. thats what many other forum that i know do. (ok maybe not all)

yes, speedplay i do understand your logic perfectly. but well i did start this thread to see what everyone has to say. so anyway, there are some threads which have sold everything sold. but i think that perhaps haggisv or mods such as yourself to make the call. but i think its a good idea to ask the poster of the thread first if the thread should be closed. and regarding the threads in the sections such as "general" or "long pimples" and so on, those old threads which still hold information but is no longer posted in should be moved to the archive so that it does not take up space in the sections while people can still access them in the archive.

in other forums where there are threads that are completely redundant such as asking a question already answered (look at the adhan sharara case) get deleted or perhaps locked and then moved to the archives.

::::EDIT::::

im sorry i did not adress your question fully speedplay, those threads which have been labeled/renamed SOLD or whatever should be deleted. no use for still holding them there...

what do you mean??

well anyway yes, speedplay, are are right (again). haha very valid argument. haha well those threads really do allow ppl to be able to have a indication of prices and perhaps the reliability of a seller/buyer. but again, i don't think that many people will actually look at them although there will still be a handful of people who do search through these old threads and that keeping them would benefit them alot. but just a thought... perhaps they would be better off searching for them in the archives??

but yes, deleting unwanted/useless posts would increase the workload of our mods and haggisv so perhaps we should hand the responsibility to the posters to delete their threads? should be give them this ability (hold on, can ppl actually delete our own threads? im not sure...)

but still, if those people do delete their *seemingly useless posts, perhaps they are also deleting stuff that people actually want to refer to... so i guess that there should be a center authority (e.g. the mods) to make the decision. but again... they would be put under alot of work...

so we do have a problem. but the reason why the fuss for all this is because to lessen the load of threads in the forum. i generally believe that this would benefit.

Do this instead: Once your stuff is sold, edit the topic to [sold] blahblahblah.

Yes I agree.. they're better left open, and the author should edit the title when things are sold...

Discussions or questions should be posted if any of the information may be useful for others, anything else should be done via PMs.

Bumps everyday should be avoided as well... perhaps once a week is OK if you feel people have forgotton you...

Perhaps a few guidelines like this would be useful to be stickied in the 'for sale' section?
