If I log on in the morning, and open the new posts, and there is heaps there, I sometimes don't want to read them all, so I leave some unread, and read them later.

I then log in later that day, and look at my new posts, it shows the new posts since when I logged in before, but NOT the ones I left unread earlier in the day.

I think that old unread posts should stay in the new posts, and there could be an option in there to click it and make it read if you don't want to read the post.

OR like on DTTW where you can choose the new posts from an allotted amount of time.

Yes they should stay unread, and that's exactly how it works for me, even if I use several different machines... I don't know why it would not work for you...

Or click on "active posts" which is similar to "new posts" but shows whats active the last few days.
I click on this mostly and also unanswered posts to see whats been missed.
