Since this recent problem with the forum database, I think we need forum page where I can post a notice and update about the forum, so that if the forum is down or is disable during an upgrade/maintenance, I can keep people informed

An excellent idea. Coursed through the shop or reviews site? I could access them while the forum was down, they're separate?

I was hoping to find some update information from the shop website, but none was available. :(

However, it did give a chance to look around.

I was thinking of either an OOAK forum blog, or an actual home page for the forum, something that does not require the forum database...

An idea that I like for this forum, and I've seen it before in a non-tt related forum, is a so-called 'karma' facility, where you can give karma points to those people that you have found particularly helpful... It's a nice way to say 'thanks' and makes the recipient feel appreciated  I have not found an easy way to do this though, but if anyone knows of a way or something similar, please let me know...

Something similar along those lines would be an indicator on people's profile, of the experience they have, behind the advice they're offering... of course this is always highly subjective and potential for arguments, but it can also very very useful... The number of posts is usually still a decent indicator, as people that have been around for a while are less likely to offer advice that is too far from being helpful.

Don't make it too complicated, a thank you note through the PM system should do. If I want the whole world to know about it, then I'll announce it.
It works for me.

Yes it is, but unfortunately it seems this mod is very 'buggy', and the author is no-where to be seen:
