Hou Yingchao uses Spectol, not sure abou the thickness or what type of spectol he uses; Yuto Muramatsu uses TSP SuperSpinPips of some sort... although i believe hes been experimenting with lps the last month or so.

I have tried 802, 799, Degu II, Spectol 1,5 Spinpips with Chopsponge, and MP Palio WP 1,5, TSP Millitall II 1,5. Millitall is good, can generate lots of spin and has some LP effect on light touch, very soft and grippy, good for chopping but not so easy to attack with or block at the table. Spinpips is slow with lots of control and easy to generate spin on pushes. Spectol is very good for allround game with chopping but you need to be in the right position, it is not forgiving. Some deception, difficult to attack with (for me, with soft blade). But still by far the best SP for chopping. I mostly tried it on a VKM, difficult to attack or block with. After I changed to MP I also tried it on Joo, but only for a few minutes. It seemed to work a lot better on a stiff blade, although Joo might be a little fast.

To the OP, I see that your signature says that you use 0.5 JOOLA Octupus; in that case, I think that TSP SuperSpinPips Chop sponge, 1.0 mm would be a good choice for you.

My suggestion as a long time short pips chopper is.

Don't go less then 1.5 sponge. You want to be able to create spin....this isn't LP chopping.

Don't go with Super spin pips chop....practically useless offensively.

Go with spectol or 802 or regular SSP

Bud. No offence, but if you haven't tried them. Don't suggest them or review them.

Spectol and 802 are obviously good too :P and creating spin is the exact reason why I chose what I chose, lol, although sponge choice might've been a bit bad... You see, if i remember correctly, normal chop sponge for SSP is pretty hard, so i guess thats why i said 1.0mm; thanks for correcting me anywayz :3

Good to have passion, but what you have read is other people's reviews which are subjective in their own right.

Then you read and pass off their opinion as yours and it gets skewed yet again.

I'm sure you will test all those rubbers in time...but until that point try to refrain from suggesting rubbers for people to try unless you preface it with "I haven't actually tried it but....."

Cool?

I feel ya on the reading lots. When you can't play as much as you want you seek out the only source of table tennis....which is the net. Welcome to the club.

That would be a very useful bit of information to disclose when your original advice was offered. Seriously, man...
