Dear players,

I am playing with Spinlord Waran 1.5 on forehand and antitop on backhand on all+/off- blade. This is far the best forehand short pips rubber for me. I tried at minimum ten short pips, among others Raystorm 2.1, Hexter pips force 1.8, Spectol 21 2.1, Pistol 1.4, SP Gipelfestrum 1.8, Joola express ultra 2.0, Yasaka xtand po 2.0.....
All kind of attacking strokes with Waran 1.5 are perfect. Pressing opponents loops with aggressive blocks, smash against everything when you are on time with little angle corrections. Also, you can lift with topspin stroke all balls (for example against pushing, blocking, chopping, dad balls) when you are late (hit the ball when start to fall down). In passive situations, my 1.5 sponge has very good control especially in pushing. I don't chop.
Why is this?
When you hit aggressive stroke like counter, loop or block, Waran pips shines, gives extra pace and speed up the ball, so in combination with enough topspin, ball hits the table....
When i return services, i have good control because of thin 1.5 sponge, i guess. Also, pushing is consistent. I suppose that 1.8 also has good control.
There are short pips in the market which has similar characteristic, but they don't have sink i.e. disturbing effect( for instance Joola express ultra). Waran has nice sink effect, not the best but enough ....something in the middle range.
Works good in combination with anti or long ox pips on backhand because you can punish all weak passive higher balls with hard aggressive hit with Waran. Another plus is that hitting is not strange stroke like with medium or long pips. Namely, there is a small time for adapting when you come from inverted, just more forward stroke....

tried it on a grubba all plus 2mm in black(forehand).i really liked the pip and it did give the sink feeling as i drove through the ball.
it was decent when blocking.im using a more controlled pip at the moment for blocking but the 2mm is not too fast on the forehand.
its an excellent attackers pip but im more of a blocker who uses controlled attack.im not sure if it was due to the blade but i noticed a pause when i hit hard(dwell time)the ball then catapulted from the blade. Not many shots came back when i used this pip due to the power.when i use my tsp l catcher pip in 1.8 i have amazing blocking and control but shots come back.
forgot to mention that the f/h chop was good away from the table.

Waran is the fastest and most aggressive SP I have used. Generates plenty of spin, and is superb for hitting and topspinning. I don't like it so much for blocking or chopping, and I find Degu slightly more controllable, but I think it's a very fine SP indeed.

I am thinking of trying Waran on my forehand with Gipfelsturm on the backhand side. I need help from the rubbers to add pace due to ongoing elbow/shoulder issues. I was thinking of a fast seven ply all wood blade. Am I thinking along the right lines?

Maybe. I've not used Gipfelsturm, but as I undertand it, it's a LP which can be used more like an SP. Perhaps in this respect it's like a MP. How are you planning to use it? For the FH, a 7 ply wooden hitting blade is perfect, but I didn't get on with LP with this blade. I used an Avalox P700, with a range of OX LP. I've still got a P700 that I am not using, if you want to try it out.

I want to use the Gipfelsturm to flick, fast push and block as aggressively as I can. It has 1.8mm of sponge and I want to play right on the edge with it. I mainly use long pips to return serve and block at the moment as my fast push seems to have deserted me with the new ball and a touch of golf elbow. Hence the need for a bit more pace.

I used a short pip on my forehand for a while somewhere back in time. I need to finish points quickly and Waran might aid my smash and drive.

I have decided to stick to an inverted rubber on my forehand and will review what rubber to use on mybackhand at the end of what has turned into a disastrous season.

I tried it on forehand for a week. I normally have spinny inverted on my forehand.

It served and chopped real well, but my topspin shots were even worse than usual as I went into the net most of the time. I'm guessing it would play very well if you can adapt the blade angle and stroke.

Tried a sheet of Waran 1.5mm black as alternative bh rubber to 802.40 on TSP balsa 4.5 and 5.0 blades.

Conclusion too hard and direct for safe blocking and seemed more suited to chopping and hitting on the.FH

Later tried same sheet on old TSP standard slow wood 3 ply blade and worked fine on BH with greater dwell and thus control and spin.

Have you tried the new TSP Spectol Blue? I previously played with Waran, but I find Spectol Blue to be much superior.

Apparently latest shipments of Waran have the same possibly harder blood orange colour sponge as just appeared on Keiler.

Has anyone received the new sponge version and noticed any difference in how it plays compared to the original yellow sponge version.

On Keiler it has really changed for the worse how it plays. Less dwell, spin and disruptive effect.

My sheet of Waran seems to have the original yellow sponge. I'd love it to be a little harder, however, - somewhere half way to Waran II's.
