Never played with a Palio blade before but if you are looking for a cheap blade for short pips, just get the Butterfly Chinese Real and you should be pretty happy with it. It is a hard blade and is relatively thick at about 7mm with five plies. I have used it with Butterfly Challenger Short Pips and it had great control. Get a thicker sponge on the pips and you will get more spin and power if you need it, but also be more sensitive to spin. The Chinese Real costs about 35 US dollars.
