I'd really like to have a go with the SSCS2 in a thinner sponge, because the "control" my sponge thickness offers really isn't too much greater than my Hurricane 3 Neo in max thickness!

The difference in chopping heavy topspin with this rubber and my Curl P1-R LPs is like night and day.

I have it in 1.0 mm and that one siffers a lot from TSP Curl P-4 1.0 mm with the same sponge. Chopping with SP is very different from chopping with LP.

Yeah, no doubt - but I suspect a less spinny (higher control) SP would be significantly easier to chop with than the SSCS2, albeit less effective. I find very similar results to an inverted rubber.

The problem is haggisv has the chop sponge 2 in 1.5 and the original in 1.0 and I'm not sure which I want and in what thickness. But the idea of it sounds awesome (a slow Spinny sp). I chop pretty low and loaded with 802 on the forehand but its too fast for me on the backhand. I can chop better with inverted both sides than I can with either sp or lp (I'm still much better with sp than lp). In any case I know what I want, just haven't found it yet. I do think 1mm sponge in the 802 is not quite enough because if you get much blade on the ball you loose control of the pace and 1.0mm sponge isn't enough room for error. With max sponge on inverted I find it much easier to keep the chop fine but then you don't have the angle precision of sp.

Well as I've decided most of you guys that have tried this rubber and don't like it are LP choppers. And that I tend to attack more with SP than I chop, but I want to chop too.. I'm going to try the chop sponge 2 in 1.5mm and see how it is from my perspective.

It's really spinny by SP standards.

I'd be fascinated to know how you get on foam. Any chance you could show us a vid too? I'd volunteer my services but my technique is still positively poor for chopping.

Well I've made the order. I'll try it next week. I'm not into videos and not really good enough to make a show of myself :). I've only been chopping for a few months and only played a handful of times over that period. I am getting the hang of it and once in a while I'm amazing... but it's only once in a while. Seriously I've only got about 10 hours hitting on the old choppo meter if that. So I'm not chopping with the kind of speed I loop at yet but I'm getting fairly stuck in, just missing a lot.

I taught myself to loop by going all out 100% power and then just waiting 3,4,5... 10 years until the consistency came up to 90%+ and I'll do the same with chopping, ie chop like a mad ninja to rip the muscle control into place and hope the skill comes later lol.

I'm too old now to wait ten years to be able to chop fast and heavy with 90%+ accuracy so I'll have to put more hours into it than I did into the looping.

Getting pretty excited to play a tournament as a modern defender though, I was edging towards it late last year but still had a inverted tensor on the BH and I haven't played since. So people are going to be like :^)

lol

I've got my sheet of chop sponge 2. My initial impression is that the sponge is non lively and not reactive to spin at all. The top sheet feels very grippy but I don't think the overall spin generation will be as much as 802 because of the dead sponge. Its sloooooow, really slow and I think thats going to be a very good thing for me.

Ok had a bit of a chop and hit around the yard to see how it feels.

Its more sensitive than 802 against spin but because its slower I think the actual errors against spin will be the same.

The dead dampening sponge has messed with the sharp feedback feel of my blade so I don't like that part of the deal its also a bit lighter (5 grams less than 802 and that's even at .5mm thicker) anyway its the less spring and less good feel in my forehand rubber that's the least good part so far. Its definitely better to hit topspin than 802, definitely not as deadly as 802 when chopping, mostly because its so much slower. BUT ! Its muuuuch more controllable than 802 when chopping because of the slow sponge. For my chopping skill at the moment I'm sure my level will be better with spin pips because ill miss less. If I was a top short pip pro chopper I reckon I'd be using 802 rather than this if I had that kind of skill. 802 also much more deadly hitting through high balls of course but with 802 its hard to get the angle right, you can easily slip a ball into the net and with its speed its error prone.

This spin pips is like 802-40 on your wife's dishwashing sponge. The idea for me to use a slow rubber on the bh is to give me more time to wind up a forehand and this rubber will do what I want but like everything there's going to be some compromises in ultimate performance here and there in the interest of control. Anyway heading to the club for a real hit tomorrow and I'll see how I feel then.

Just a suggestion:

Has anyone of you ever played with the TSP L-catcher? It's a medium pip (1,1 mm) and has the same sponge as the P4.

It could be the rubber in the middle of the P4 and the SSP2

Isn't the L-Catcher for 44mm balls?

44mm?! Didn't know such a size existed. Where / when are they used?

I doubt it's for the 44mm ball:

That website actually states, The coating is particularly suitable for playing with larger balls.
