I tried going back to both inverted in the past couple of months but I find myself blocking and driving a lot in the FH, as opposed to looping and topspinning. I glued back the 802-1 FH and left the Mars II in the backhand. Good to be back. The max sponge 802-1 can block, drive and (fake) loop like no other SP i tested (I tried only 3 or 4 :D )

Hello,

im thinking about using a balsa-carbon blade (like Spinlord Ultra Balsa) for an all pips-out Setup (Spinlord Keiler 1,5 on backhand and Spinlord Degu 1,8 on forehand).
Has anyone experience with those blades with short/medium pips out?
What do you think, Kees?

An east-european player prefers balsa-carbon combinations very much:

I have an Avalox C555 Ma Wenge and already tested TSP Spectol and FS 802-1 (both in 1.8mm).
Both were not so easy to control like expected because I needed to hit the ball in a quite perfect angle.

After reading this great thread I think a spinnier rubber would help, like the 802-40.
Did dit a lot of inquiry and came to Stiga Clippa rubber (1.8mm) that should be as spinny (?) as the 802-40 and want to give it a try.
What do you think of this combination: C555 and Clippa?

is 802-1 more nasty than 802 to the oponent? where do you get a good 801-1 ?

I think i'll try both: 802 and 802-40 in 2mm or max.
802-40 would be first.

802 is difficult to play. It doesn´t generate much spin on your hard blade (nearly no spin at all).
Because of that you don´t have much controll and must hit the ball exactly right.
Try 802-1 instead. It´s between 802 and 802-40 in sponge hardness. Quite good on backhand.

Greetings Claus

what pip is more dangerous for the opponent? 802 or 802-1

The 802 and the 802-1 are almost the same. The 802-1 is better for blocking because of the slightly wider pip spacing. You can use both.

So 802-1 gives more knuckle balls and less spin?

Only one problem. Where DOES one find 802-1? Definitely not on Eacheng…

Wonder how 802-40 would do for hardbat. The topsheets aren't available at Eacheng, though...

802-1 has slightly larger pimples but more sparsely populated than 802. Sort of like a cross between 802-40 and 802. The topsheet (pimples) are also just a hair harder than 802, same as 802-40.

The sponges are also different, but there are so many different versions its hard to keep track. I would say 802-1 is a slightly faster, but less spinny version of 802-40, but comparing friction with the original 802 is more subjective.

Hello Kees,

in the first (outstanding) Post of this topic you talk about Friendship 802, 802-1 802-40.
The difficulty with this rubbers is the sponge, because there are many versions of this rubbers around.
Do you talk of the 802 with the orange sponge ('tackspeed') and of the 802-1 with white sponge ('HRS' for 'high reactor sponge')?

Greetings Claus

Dear Short Pips Users and Short Pips God Kees,

i read the whole thread in the last couple days und watched all Videos i could find on youtube.

I understand that I have to shorten my BH SP Stroke, get a consistens stroke at rise / highest point of the ball travel, stay close to the ball und use my wrist to generate some topspin on faster balls.

But there is one question left for me:

I assume that all the top players like Liu Guliang, Wang Tao, Tan Ruiwu, that Hongkong Guy which i cant remember the name of and others used to use Speed Glue on the Pips or use Tensor/High Tension Pimples.

Does speedgluing / the built in speed glue effekt change the basic stroke on short pimples?

Thanks in advance and cheers from Germany,

Kai

I know I am resurrecting an old thread, but these videos are great. Fun to watch some old 21 point games and a classic short pips hitting style.
