Hi everyone,

On Cole Ely's website, www.colestt.com/pips-out.php , it makes the statement: This topsheet ( the 802-40 ) has changed a bit from what it was. Now the base sheet and formulation is more like regular 802, but still a little wider pips for more friction.

Is this true? Has 802-40 changed?

I have a black sheet on order, I'm playing with the red sheet and the red is not as soft as the black.

In general red is a bit harder and less elastic than black

I feel like the new 802-40 has less of a pronounced conical pip shape

I agree that red is harder than black. I've been playing with red, I have a black on order, I want to switch back to black.

AND....I DON'T think there has been a change to the rubber, when I get my black I will compare it to a beat up black that I've had in hiding for 4 years.

And .... GOOD to hear from you pie! Heck, you must be close to legal "drinking age" by now! We both started on this forum 4 years ago!

Perhaps 729 have several factories, or outsource to other factories, so some of the sheets are different. Not a good sign for 729...

I think that in general 729/RITC Rubbers aren't that consistent with their production - at least a few people from my club told me so. Just 2 weeks ago I had to throw away a sheet of 799, because the hole surface was messed up - right out of the box...
Nevertheless: imho 729 rubbers are real value monsters!

The other day I played with a clubmates bat with 802-40 on one side that he recently put on. I didn't scrutinize it, but it felt absolutely like the 802-40 I know and (used to) love. No discernable differences in throw, spin, ball feel or speed.
