Good day! I am just curious about the differences of Dr. N SPs.

Killer
Killer PRO
Tornado Ultra
Pistol
Leopard

I am currently using 802-40 but this rubber seems slow for my ALL blade, so I'm thinking of putting it back on my RPB side and put a Dr. N SP on my FH but I don't seem to distinguish their specific differences.

I'm looking an SP that will pair well with my Firewall Plus pen (ALL). More speed maybe.

Thanks!

But Dr N site and TT11 categorized them as SP. I'm getting confuse of these MPs.

well, at least now you know the killer and killer pro are medium. the killer pro has harder sponge.
if you don't want medium, then eliminate these two from your list.
if you do want medium, i would recommend yinhe/galaxy pluto instead.

fast sp that i know are tsp tyranno and joola tango ultra. they are older rubbers, not sure if still current/available now.

I think technically going by length they are "short" pips, but they don't play anything like regular short pips. Killer is more like a long pip in effect! Very weird stuff, and extremely difficult to use effectively.

If you want a spinny, faster SP -- try the moristo SP, joola ultra express, or butterfly short pips.

I have Killer and Killer Pro, they look like a short pip, but play more like a medium pip. Not my cup of tea, close to the older Diamant, which is a medium pip. These might work for hitting through spin, or for a straight up block/hit game style. Not a lot of spin to be had here. I get better results for all of this plus better spin from SpinLord Keiler.

As for Pistol, this is from another thread: "The sponge is incredibly soft; you can get good spin out of slow brush loops because of this. When you hit with anything resembling power it bottoms out and plays very flat. Don't plan on swappjng it around on different blades, the sponge will tear. (by danhs)" I would agree with this short description of Pistol. I have a friend who uses it with a thin sponge and it plays just like this.

First things first...802-40 is not slow. If you can't get speed from that rubber, look at technique and not equipment.

Of the list above I have only tried killer, which is a nice short/medium pip and slower than 802-40.

802-40 is far from slow. You don't mention the sponge width, but even in 1.8 it's not slow.

I have no experience of Dr N SP, but if you want a SP that works well with that blade, I'd have thought 802-40 would be an obvious choice.

You could get something quicker, sure. Donic Baxster, or Spectol in max. Spinlord Waran is also fast and spinny.

Killer looks like a short pip but has fairly smooth pips so let's some spin through.

Leopard I have heard is like 802-1 a high control short pip good for blocking but not terribly fast.

Hello,

In order to clarify things please find below some information concerning our short pimple rubbers:

PISTOL comes with rather soft pimples and a very soft sponge, hence a very soft feeling.
It is fairly fast and allows for a dynamic attacking game, with very good control.
The rubber produces a lower bounce especially while counter-attacking and hitting, less so while blocking.

LEOPARD is a "classic" short pimple rubber, medium fast, with good control and very good "allround" properties for blocking, counter-attacking and straight hitting. It can also be used very well for chopping (with thin sponge). It does produce a lower bounce but only with thinner sponge (0.6/1.0/1.5), not with 2.0mm.

TORNADO ULTRA comes with very large pimples, it is fast and produces good spin while serving and looping (topspin-like stroke). It does not produce much disruptive effect.
It is a good rubber for short pips beginners since almost the same technique as with inverted rubbers can be used.

KILLER and KILLER PRO have the same topsheet but a different sponge.
Both produce good (if not very good) disruptive effect while blocking, counter-attacking and straight hitting.
The sponge of KILLER is medium hard (°43) and provides a bit more control, while the sponge of KILLER PRO is a bit harder (°45), faster and even more disruptive.
The versions with thin sponge (1.3/1.5) are the most effective in both cases in terms of low bounce, the thicker sponges are naturally faster (with less disruptive effect).
KILLER and KILLER PRO allow for quite a deceptive game however they don't play by themselves, some training is needed.

By the way our new half-long pimple rubber AGGRESSOR might be interesting for those of you who found the KILLER rubbers to be too difficult to control, while keeping good disruptive effect and also producing more spin.

Let me know if you have more questions!

Cheers

Carsten

Thanks for the clarification Carsten!
You shoud put these descriptions on the website to help potential buyers.

So would you say Aggressor is the better rubber compared to the Killer/Pro?
You mentioned several better points of Aggressor compared to the Killer/Pro, does it have worse points compare to Killer/Pro? Is it same length or longer compared to Killer/Pro?

Hello,

You are welcome!

AGGRESSOR is part of the KILLER/KILLER PRO family however with some differences:
The pimples are longer (1.65mm) and wider (2.1mm), also we have adjusted the rubber formula to the new pimple geometry.
It is not a miracle rubber (I wish there was such a thing) however it combines pretty good control, noticeable disruptive effect and also good speed.
The disruptive effect obtained (low bounce) is still best with KILLER and KILLER PRO.
On the other hand AGGRESSOR has more control and more grip than KILLER/KILLER PRO and is thus more effective for producing spin (service, pushing, looping).
Last but not least the versions with thin sponge (1.3/1.5mm) provide the lowest bounce.
We believe it to be a very interesting product in the segment of medium pips rubbers!

Carsten

I would certainly try it later. Thanks a lot!

I have been playing against people using Killer/Pro, trying them for a short while too, but I will get them for myself to try and also the Aggressor.

Is the sponge of the Aggressor more similar to that of Killer or Killer Pro or some other rubber?

I'm liking the semi-hard blue sponge on the TSP Spectol Blue I'm using now.
