You can try Yasaka Rakza PO. I've played against it a lot and there's a lot of room on spin variation (sometimes a lot of spin, sometimes not), good speed and it has good blocking capabilities.

802 on gold palm sponge 35 deg is an amazing rubber

I used Winning NP-8 short pips 2.0 on my forehand for years. Comes in 30 degree or 35-37 degree sponge. It can do everything well. Brush loop or smash, no problem. Blocking takes some getting used to. Serves very well.

Nice. Degu is 30 degrees and Waran is 32. There is a Degu II too, which is around 36/37 degrees, but I think this would be quite a bit slower than Waran.

try gold palm sponge 35 deg on eacheng paired with 802 is amazingly good or try moristo and beautry. also 889-2 is good because has wide pips to get spin but longer pips for more deception

the blade also helps to get more deception

Where did you buy this gold palm sponge, and how did you glue it to your 802 topsheet?

What thickness did you use for this sponge, and why did you like it (and on FH or BH)?

buy a topsheet .gluing its easy ..the rubber is as good as japanese pip because the sponge is top quality. I played with penhold you can boost it and will play great

are they selling single sponge of waran pips?

Factory gluing of sponge to topsheet is a specialized process not easily replicated at home, or I'd guess, by boutique retailers. I'm told factories use very expensive primers before the adhesive to obtain the proper bond. I tried making untold variants of 755 with Japanese and Chinese sponges and never came close to equaling factory results.

I recommend TSP Spinpips RED.. the 40+ polyball replacement for Super Spinpips.

Murruk, this is a bit unrelated but how do you like the Tuttle summer 3c and what sponge are you using with it?

Hi, I'm very late to this thread, but it seems to me you want the same thing I was searching for some years back - the short pip that is great for opening AND awesome at smashing.
Now you can loop those defensive pushers off the table, and smash through higher level loopers like a laser.

The problem:
For a SP to be good at opening it must have either a medium or soft topsheet and a very soft (ie 30d) sponge. Now thanks to that great soft sponge you can get the extra contact time on low impact shots to make a strong opening loop. Awesome, good bye Mr Conservative and Mr Pusher.

But in my next game I play a 25y old aggressive looper. Now my soft sponge that let's me open well is hurting my blocks and smashes. The ball digs into my sponge letting the incoming spin have more effect on me, and I am smashing with a pillow between my topsheet and blade.

I either need two bats and a split personality to use them, or I have to decide who I want to be.

I have now realised that giving up the incredible versatility of inverted and playing SP means you become very specialized at 1 thing, or at least one game style, and the real art is sucking your opponent into playing the game you want them to.

If you find a magic SP please let me know, otherwise you need to give up the versatility of inverted IN ORDER TO BE BETTER THAN inverted at just one or two things.

I have a video of Australia's best SP Male player (plays SP both sides) in an over 40's national final against a double inverted player who is smart enough to play very conservatively against him. Lots of pushing and short-short, and chop.

It's so interesting. You wonder how is this a national final? But this same player has torn up some of our top 10 open players when they loop at him like normal. It's the cost of being better than inverted at just 1 or 2 things.

Mima Ito is my favourite SP backhand player by far, and she does some fantastic SP loops against underspin at times. Really amazing. In the 2018 match linked below Ding Ning wins many points serving fast/long underspin serves to her B/H. Mima loops some of them well, but not consistantly, and clearly lost the 2nd set/game as a result.

It will be interesting to see if Mima upgrades her Moristo SP to Beautry or something else so she can handle these serves a little better. (I don't know if Beautry is better at opening than Moristo, just speculation).

My point: even the best in the world have the exact same stuggle as you described at the start of this thread.
