Post subject:  Blade advice for DONIC baxster F1-A
Hi friends,

after a long time OUT after a recovery of a cirurgy I´m back, and I need your expert advice.

I got a new black rubber, donic Baxster F1-a 2mm (short pimple) and I was thinking on using it on a grubba blade (the old ONE), is it a good blade To try it on a backhand with acuda P1 on forehand?
I Also have with me other blades:
- donic waldner senso V2 (don´t like it too much),
- butterfly mazunov which I already try, 2 years ago with a TSP spectol speed (wasnt easy To play with since it was my first experience with short pimples),
- donic defense classic (it doesnt seem a good choice with an atacking pimple,
- donic appelgreen senso v2, from my kid (handle too small),
- butterfly Michael maze from a friend ( bit i supose it would be like lhe mazunov?!?!)

I need some help on deciding if I should go on with lhe grubba balde.

I was just wondering if the grubba blade, would be a BAD blade to use with short pimples.

By the way, has anyone tryed those pips (Baxster F1-A).

5 hrs isn't very long to wait for people with specialised and relevant experience to come across your post, read it, process it, decide if they have anything useful to say, and get around to saying it. That's before you factor in time zones, and the exponential nature of the probability of all of those factors coinciding.

Importance of blade/rubber matching is frequently overstated, IMHO, especially for mainstream equipment. So, don't fret over it, just try and see for yourself (what's stopping you?)

Also - probability of someone trying that exact combo (which includes SP I've never heard of) is not that high, so have patience.

Ladies and gentlemen, I think we call that getting PIP SMACKED!

The baxster was of interest to me as well, though I've never seen or heard of anyone who uses it. Though I might assume it's pretty close to all other similar pips... so the blades for that type should work decently enough with it.

The Baxster F1-A was the first SP I used. It's fast, spinny, and soft. An aggressive, modern, pip.

I used it on a fast donic blade. The Waldner Senso Carbon. It was very fast - too fast for me - a relative beginner.

I've since tried it on a number of other blades, and found that even on a slow blade, the rubber is pretty potent.

If you have the ability to control it, and wish to play an all out attacking game, it's a good choice.

In terms of blade, I'd pick something in the middle, and see how you get on. You have other blades available if you feel the need or desire to tame or augment its performance.

by your description those pips are spinny like I was looking for (but never try this type), diferent from SPECTOL, so it will play more like an inverted, easier to use than a spinless rubber (like classical short pips), correct?

Hi all,

A friend who plays "semi-pro" level have borrow me a DONIC DEFLAY SENSO blade this week end, since I haven´t glued my pips should I begin on trying with this blade or it will not suit well a blocking and hitting style, since it´s a defensive blade?
Just asking because the head of the blade is big and if start with another blade the rubber will not fit totally.

And can anyone compare the BAXSTER F1-A with SPECTOL.

The DDS is pretty Slow imo and also has a bigger face :) (dont know The correct Word haha)

Of you only Play a blocking Game on Bh, There Is No reason for me to Not choose a Standart size Blade


Try The Blade you like your FH The Most and just glue Your pips in it, so far from my side

Care to not Take a Blade with too soft outer Layers, its gonns feel Mushy with modern soft pips

I've used 802 1.5mm on defplay senso for a short. Good enough for chopping game, not so good for close to table blocking or hiting due to its flex. But it's just my opinion.

I agree with pgpg - it's easy to obsess too much over rubber/blade matching. However, the DDS is specifically designed to be a defensive blade - it's oversized, 5 ply, with soft, dampening outer plies. I wouldn't say it was an ideal match for a fast offensive SP.

That said - no harm in trying it out. But beware, it's a big blade - rubbers cut for regular blades won't fit properly on the defplay. Fine the other way round, but obviously once you trim a rubber cut for the defplay, you can't put it back again.
