I've started testing JOOLA Express Ultra along with several others:
Nittaku Moristo SP Ax
Andro Blowfish+
Andro Hexer Pips+
Victas VO > 102
Sauer&Tröger Hass
TSP Spinpips RED
Der Materialspezialist Firestorm
GAMBLER GXS
Nittaku Beautry
Spinlord Waran

Initial impressions of this JOOLA SP are that it's fast, spinny, clicky, and easy to use on FH. Blocks very well, controlling incoming topspin with ease. Plays like a faster Spinpips RED in many respects, which is a good thing! More comments later..

Looking forward to your comparison with Blowfish+, which is faster? I've been eyeing the Express, but very hard to get a hold of around here. Blowfish (regular non+) is my next fallback.

Blowfish+ and JOOLA EU are miles apart in how they play so speed should not be your deciding factor.

After a few more play days with JOOLA Express Ultra I must say that it's really growing on me. It plays crisp, with nice feedback and a satisfying click when hit hard. Plenty of spin when needed and explosive flat-hitting speed. Always predictable and linear. I think it has displaced Nittaku Moristo SP Ax as my FH SP.

Hi nathan have you ever tried rakza po? I have been using short pips on both sides now ( before that I used inverted for 18 years but always was a flat hitter). I am interested how rakza po compared to the express ultra.

Nope, that's one I haven't tried.

I have just got myself a Spinlord ultra power Blade and am undecided on whether to put TSP Spinpips red on forehand or joola express ultra, what do you think would be best for a blade like this

Thanks for any advice

Joola Express is my forehand rubber of choice. Interesting pip as you can play it with classic flat hitting technique or play normal topspin strokes. Very easy to handle the opponent's spin and also can produce very heavy spin serves. As mentioned in other posts, nice sound with a "kill" shot.

All-in-all, a nice all-round short pips, with no great weakness and high speed and spin capabilities.

Hi Nathanso,

Can you compare the topsheet and sponge hardness vs the Hexer pips+, Spinpips Red, and Waran? Those are the only ones on your list I'm familiar with.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Sponges from softest to hardest: HP+, JOOLA EU, Spinpips RED. Same ordering for the topsheets. The gap between HP+ and JOOLA EU is much larger than the gap between JOOLA EU and Spinpips RED, i.e. HP+ is really soft!

I don't have my sheet of Waran anymore so can't include that in the comparison.

Hi Nathanso,

Not sure if this is hijacking a thread, but interested to hear your comparison between the Express Ultra and 102. Think of picking up one of these.

I would say the Spinpips Red is definitely harder than Waran.

I did a good bit of testing today with these four SPs at my local tt club:

First, their weights from identically cut black sheets for my over-sized blade:
Express Ultra 2.0mm 40.1g
VO 102 1.8mm 34.9g
Spinpips RED 2.0mm 38.2
Nittaku Moristo SP Ax max 40.8

I'll refer to these below as EU, 102, SRED, and SPAx respectively.

Speed: EU => 102 > SPAx > SRED
Spin: 102 > EU => SRED => SPAx
Sound: 102 > EU > SPAx => SRED
Insensitivity to incoming spin: SRED > EU > 102 > SPAx
Feel/Feedback: 102 => EU > SRED > SPAx

> refers to more than
=> refers to same or slightly more than
