I'm currently looking into new short pips for my forehand and I'm particularly curious about this one. I'm a defensive player who values heavy backspin and spin variation, but I like to mix things up and attack fairly often. I've got a sheet of Friendship 802 1.5mm on my forehand at the moment and this rubber, at least from reviews I've seen, seems like it's an upgrade but I should be able to play roughly the same way with it. Has anybody used this rubber for chopping and hitting, either on the forehand or backhand?

I want to increase variation on my game, something that is very important for defenders. At this moment, I have a slow rubber on my backhand (Feint Long 3) so I want something that is fast and has some access to spin on my forehand.

TSP spin pips red or blue

It's pretty bouncy and fast. Not really anymore than a tenergy type though, so depends on your skill level. Speaking of forehand chopping here, I used it in the Thomas Ben born style of chopping. I think others would be better

I've played to a fairly decent level in the past so if the rubber is compatible with chopping, I'm confident I could adjust to its increase in power/spin. Just wondering if others have had success defending with it. It seems to be a given that it will be great to attack with.

What's the Thomas Ben style of chopping?

He uses/used butterfly raystorm to chop on the forehand.

Most of the new-age tensor pips all play pretty much the same. It's like choosing between tenergy, tibhar mx series, donic bluefire/jp, stiga calibra etc. or whatever else is out there. The idea behind all of them are more or less the same, with some differences here and there. You can spend loads of money (like me...) and try them all out to discover this fact yourself -- or just pick one from the bunch and stick with it!

I've used spectol, super spinpips, 802, 802-40, 563, 563-1, yasaka razka PO, butterfly impartial xb, spectol 21, spinpips 21, ultra express, diamant, hallmark panther, moristo sp, etc. etc. on and on it goes!

If they're in the same class, they play about the same.

I personally think the non-tensor style are easier to play with for chopping and can still hit when necessary. If you want a little extra pepper, then opt for the tensor (ultra express, razka PO, impartial XS types).

From where I am right now, I think the tensor pips aren't for me. Without testing a tensor pip, you saying non-tensor ones are better for chopping really rings true. The idea behind a tensor pip though when I was considering it was for my forehand. So, in essence, I was wanting to go inverted without actually going inverted .
