Just curious if anyone has found a need to change their game, or perhaps an unexpected improvement from using the new ball?

I know the general chat was that long pips would suffer more, due to the lack of spin. Though it seems the long pips choppers have actually done better at the high pro levels. And it's players like Wu Yang and Han Ying who are experiencing more losses since the newer ball.

At the amateur level, I wonder if results are the same?

Has anyone moved to short pips and done better?

Coming from both inverted, I switched to SP for chopping on BH.
After testing LP for few months, the lack of spin was too obvious with the plastic ball.
It would be maybe different if I were to play with LP Ox.
So I went back to SP... but because of the new ball, I decided for a thicker sponge (1.5 to 1.8mm) and it seems to work better for me.

Maybe it was something about my technique, but I found chopping with short pips -- even short pips meant for chopping like the TSP Spinpips Chop 2 -- to be the worst of all worlds, in that it created less active spin than inverted and less control and spin reversal than long pips.

Seriously, I find Spinpips Chop 2 not so great for chopping actually. Sure, it can create a massive amount of spin and its sponge can tame fast balls but that's also its downfall because it's just too sensitive to spin in general.
TSP Spectol does a much better job at almost everything plus gives a good sink effect at times.

TSP Spectol has been somewhat overshadowed by all the new tensor sponge type SPs that have been launched over the last 2-3 years but as you mention is still an excellent and versatile SP for the backhand even with the new ball. And unlike a lot of SP is good for spinny chops.

On a def blade Spinlord Waran is another interesting SP as it can impart a lot of backspin and side spin on chops and blocks as well as being an excellent hitting rubber. It is quite sensitive to spin on serves however.
