Post subject:  How often do you replace your tension-sponged short pips?
I've noticed that with my TSP Spinpips RED that I'm currently using, the rubber dampens down a bit after a month or so. I can certainly still use the rubber, but it doesn't generate quite as much spin. For anyone who uses tension short pips, how often do you replace your pips? Thanks

A month seems to be about what people say is the time period after which inverted Tensors/Tenergy "goes dead", so that sounds about right. Does the rubber shrink if you remove it from the blade? It's just the boosting chemicals wearing off - if you want to keep using the rubber just boost it (again).

the ideal would be to have 3 rubber for year .use one for training switch it one week before a tournament for new one and after go back to the first one (in this way a semester or 4 months) the ruuber used for tournaments will be use for training and so on

I've been using the same sheet of TSP Spinpips RED 1.9mm black since Sep 2016 with no noticeable degradation. I keep the pip tips clean by wiping with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with TT rubber cleaner before every play session. EDIT: I was incorrect above; my error made apparent when I finally replaced my sheet of Spinpips RED and was surprised by noticeably more consistent play and more spin. So they do wear out! I'll be replacing my SP rubbers more regularly now.

On my match blade I have a sheet of Joola Tango Ultra which is, from memory, at least 10 years old. I generally don't ever throw/give away my short pimpled rubbers, unlike inverted ones. I've bought different sponge thicknesses and changed short pips when the colour became dirty and dark (red sheets of the pimples) but never because they have worn out. Sometimes the pips seem to get harder, sometimes the sponge softer but not enough at my level to warrant a change.

The longevity of playing with short pips is one of the great cost advantages of using them :devil:
