Do you treat your 802-1 on 1.6 mm sponge someway, to enhance its spinning ability, or is your sponge special? I've used the 802-1 myself and couldn't adjust to the hard/dead feel it has on its standard (white HRS) sponge in 1.8 mm, even less so in 1.5 mm; in 2.0 mm I could handle it a bit better, even more so in 2.2 mm, but as it gets thicker control decreases, so at last I gave up on it and changed to 652 in 1.8 mm. I don't have the same problem with 802 (maybe because its topsheet is thinner?).

The DHS is mostly listed as long (its values would 70 60 55); the pimplemini seems to be medium, but I can't find reliable values for it.

I've added some, again. For others, like the Speedy P.O. , I still can't find reliable values. As for the spin value, On Megaspin.net I happened on values for Donic Twister's spin "20-60". One might offer the same kind of range with some of Neubauer's rubbers, I guess.

I'm using the Dr. Zheng yellow sponge from Zeropong. That is much more dynamic than the HRS sponge. Not sure where you'd get it in Europe though. The orange Friendship sponge is also much more dynamic than HRS is. http://zeropong.com/xcart4/home.php?cat=276

Interesting! Overall, that combination should come pretty close to DHS 652, I think.

Here's a way to combine the SP's on the two lists. Rubbers are now categorized by the type of play they are suitable for:

OFF+ (for all-out attack, mostly fast flat hitting)
OFF (for controlled attack, mostly drive&hit play)
ALL (for controlled play, mostly block&drive)
DEF+ (for defensive play, mostly blocking and counter-attack)
DEF (for defensive play, mostly blocking and chopping)

And within these categories they are ordered by brand, alphabetically, followed by the values for speed (increasing), spin and control.
I don't mean to suggest that this categorization is anything other than tentative. For instance, I feel that rubbers with relatively high speed and low spin are OFF+, whereas rubbers with maybe higher speed but also with more spin are OFF, because more spin will allow playing a more controlled game; but that is just an opinion.
Note: some rubbers will appear in more than one category, because they are versatile as such, or because they can be used differently with different sponge thickness (which is indicated in these case).

While I find that an intriguing list, I have to quibble with the categories. I think the blade you use and your strokes will make a big difference in how these rubbers are employed.

For example, I used to play an OFF+ game with Joola Tango Ultra or Snabb on a hard, triple carbon blade. That game was 90% penhold forehand attack with almost no blocking, maybe once per game.

I would serve short and then roll or loop the push return to set up an attack. I would attack first in order to stifle their attack. Short serves would be aggressively flipped, long ones would be rolled or looped, or if high smashed for a winner. If not, I'd look to smash on the 4th ball.

With this style, the grippier short pips allowed me to open up against low balls. The harder sponge and slightly less spinny Snabb, helped me gain consistency, so I could roll, not just loop so an OFF+ game was converted to an OFF game, I'd keep the first ball low and kill the next one.

Right now I'm playing a less aggressive game with 802-1 1.5 sponge on a slightly softer, but even faster blade. The big change is that I am serving long more aggressively and looking for 3rd ball attacks. If the return is attacked, I'm improving my defense by working on blocking more effectively. I might call this an OFF- game, but as blocking is not my goal, a 3rd ball kill is, I don't think it's an ALL game.

So the blade and the style of the player make a big difference in which rubber may be appropriate. A chart like Butterfly has that factors in blade speed might be useful in this, as 1.5 sponge on an OFF+ blade might be a more aggressive setup than max sponge on an ALL+ blade.

Or maybe this is another penhold/shakehand difference?

Hmm. While it's true that I also feel that strokes influence the rubber's behavior, I guess the current categories are there merely as guides for a bit easier purchase decision.

I find that DEF/ALL/OFF ratings are useless or misleading for any equipment, both rubber and blades. Why should someone tell you what kind of game a piece of equipment is suited for? I know a defensive player who uses a sardius. If i were a flat hitting penholder i would use a hard slow blade. Providing the physical characteristics ought to be enough, especially if you can give more details such as multiple speed numbers. Having a large independent list is still helpful though.

Weird that Spectol is thought of as (one of the main) SP chopper rubber yet at the same time so fast / hard to control.
